I have always wanted to contribute to this forum, and this idea will help some of you, recently I took my first night fishing outing on my boat and since night vision is important for making your way around the boat. This cheap creation helped a lot. I know LED strips are the ideal way to go, but I'm not handy like that and my time was limited to find someone to install them. So I came across these very small LED lanterns and then I remembered one of my son's science projects and viola. A red LED lantern for only $11.
All you need are: a LED lantern ($11), Red index divider ($1) folded into 1/3's, and tape.

Now you have a portable Red lantern that you can carry around you all over the boat plus the lanterns have fold away handles that allows you to hang them anywhere you like.

Hope this tip helps some of you guys.
