I'm currently in town as a free agent in pro baseball and living about 15 min away. I've heard the fishing is unreal in this area and have only fished from shore. Aside from there I've fished many canals and done fairly decent but no lunkers yet. If anyone has any more info or wants a fishing partner on their boat I'm available 90% of the time.

ABA, welcome again to UB. We have several guys that fish Lox, me included. So far its been tough out on Lox. Maybe someone will jump in with better news than what I have just given you... :surrender:
I read that they're closing down part of Lox until November. Something to do with construction of some new pumps for drainage of Lake Okeechobee. I think 2 of 4 ramps and west parking lot. I'm not a big fan of Lox so won't bother me.
Welcome ABA! The bass fishing in general has been extremely slow this summer. Lox can be really good from time to time though.

Yeah, I went yesterday morning and had plans to walk west to the first spillway to try my luck and it was already blocked off. Still trying to find a good morning spot to try from shore

From what it was last year to this year is a big difference for me. Still trying to catch a nice Florida lunker I keep seeing videos of in the canals and random ponds

There are lunkers but they aren't as easy as to catch as people make them out to be unless you are using live bait. Most people from outside of Florida think that when you fish Florida waters you'll catch a 8lber every other cast. It just doesn't work that way.
Been bass fishing for a bit over 3 years now and my PB is 6lbs. It all depends where you fish too.
Not sure how far you are from Lake Osborne but if it isn't far from you there is a lot of bank you can fish from many sides of that lake. One being from John Prince Park. As far as lunkers coming out of there, I'm not sure.
While you are down here if you haven't target peacock bass, you might want to give it a shot. It is prime peacock season, and many of the canals hold some big peacock. Lake Osborne and Ida also have a large population of peas. They are pretty fun to catch. They pull harder than most cichlids and give you some bass type head shakes and jumps too.

Haha yup YouTube and Instagram are very deceiving in that sense. I lived off Congress and Linton for a while last year and fished a canal behind my apartment. Mostly 1-3 lbers and the odd 5lber would come out of there, maybe once a month.
I like your advice for the peacock bass. I have only caught one in my life but would love to catch more I do my training off Linton so both Ida and Osborne aren't too far for me.
