Title: Mounting a buck
Post by: fishballer06 on December 04, 2017, 02:27:17 PM
After ~18 years of deer hunting, I've finally got myself a deer worthy of getting mounted. However, I'm now happily married (1.5 years) and a new home owner (1 month) and the wife isn't in favor of me hanging a deer off our wall. So fellas, how did you talk your lady into letting you hang a dead animal off your wall and in what room did you put your mount?

I'm reading into this that you don't have a man cave somewhere in your house.

Oh you are having to decide who is wearing the dress or the pants in the house. Fun times  lo

Seriously I don't ask for permission to decorate my home. But on the flip side I don't do things that can be quite controversial to start a issue I'm not ready to commit to defending 100% either.
If I thought it belonged over the mantle then It would appear there on it. It's like a Confederate  flag. You can put one as drapes in the living room or other places but you get to live and defend it as well.

We've literally only been in our home a month. So this buck could be the great start to a man cave!

On the other hand, it could be the start of the single life (part two)...  lo

100% agree.  That just leads to more trouble.  You have to be diplomatic about it, but who am I to talk.  You've all seen how I handle situations at times and where it gets me.
How much stuff has she picked out for decorating?  If she has picked most stuff and I'm betting she has just "nicely" remind her you have a say in it and it's your house too, and you'd "Like" don't say "want" to have this deer mount.
If you don't have a family room or office but have an extra bedroom I'd make that my man cave.  That's what I did.  It's worked out great and that's where I have all my mounts because the wife didn't want them in the main living area.
Good luck Bud.
Ron

I talked to a taxidermist I know.  He said if you told him I sent you he'd work with you and anyone else from UltimateBass that calls him for fish or deer.
It's Doyle Creek Taxidermy  His name is Cory.  I'm not sure if it's permitted for me to post his URL.  I sent you a PM with info.
Tell him Ron Schmidt sent you.

Pick the place that you know she will hate the most as your favorite place. Then when she says no you can negotiate it to the spot that you actually want it at! ;D

In all seriousness you should figure out where your going to hang it before it goes to the taxidermist. That way you know what pose and which direction he is going to be looking etc.

Yep, he's got it!!! Right way to go, you get your man cave also.
Nice wall Cojab, are you going to try a Griz mount and Bighorn also?
I'd take up hunting again but they frown on mounts of politicians. lo lo

Find the spot you want for your man cave and tell her she can do what she wants with the rest of the house but this is your area.  ~bb ~bb  ;D

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll likely be putting it up on the wall in the garage, unless I can convince her to let me put it up over the wet bar in the basement family room.

That's a good spot to put it so just do it and like Mike said it's better to ask forgiveness than to get permission. lo lo

I agree with Lip here. What better place to put it than over the bar?

On that note...
"wet bar" in the "family room"
Adopt me please?

This is the photo from the listing before we bought the place, but I think it would go well here.

I dunno man, that might be a little crowded.

I guess I'm lucky, I don't think Connie would give a damn what I hung on the wall. Long as it ain't one of those half naked lady posters some of y'all are so fond of!

Probably no griz or bighorn but a black bear yes and my mountain lion should be coming home from the taxidermist any time. I wouldn't waste the money at my taxidermist on a politician! lo

I have so many mounts now I really dont have room for any more big game animals.
I could do a fish wall though. :-*
