Title: Dobyns 795 Champion XP Swimbait Rod as flippin rod????
Post by: 68camaro on February 05, 2018, 08:02:52 PM
I bought the Champion XP 795 for swimbaits and love it, but would you also use this as flippin rod with 3/4 to 2oz weights?

I suppose it would work. But man that thing is a shovel handle... The weight of it would probably get to you quickly if you were pitching with it all day.

I love my 795 for punching. But its the regular DX 795 FLIP not the swimbait version. I'm not sure how it would work, the length is great, but the action might be too light for driving a large single hook through a large bass's jaw.

Here is an review I wrote on the DX 795 FLIP, it explains somethings that would make you think the Swimbait version would work. I agree with Fishballer on the weight though.

Thanks guys, it is stout for sure but as backup flipper I may give it a try.
