I'm not talking rods and reels. Obviously we need that stuff and it will very depending on where, but rather what about the other stuff.
Do you take back packs or is there a better option. Bug spray, snake proof boots, buckets? What kind of clothing is a must have when shore fishing?
Basically what are those little things that someone new to shore fishing needs to know to help with the learning curve. Help a bother out?
Bug spray, sun screen, a bag of baits and hooks, a stringer, snacks, drinks maybe.
But most important - a folding chair. :)
A hat, buff, polarized sunglasses, pair of fishing pliers, small working scale, and lastly a rag or small towel. Fish slime, blood, etc... is a pita to clean off. lo
Mosquito head net, knife, pliers, gun, stool or chair.

Just a day trip :
Boots, I wear boots all the time
Gun, yup all the time
Knife, all the time
Shades, I wear prescription transition lens
Stringer, basket, or 5 gal bucket (if fishing for something to eat)
Fishing Hat
Needle nose pliers
Bug spray, spray ankles before socks, then spray socks, then your boots and pants
Water
Lighter
Long sleeve shirt
I wear jeans almost 100% of the time but for those who like shorts chiggers in your crotch will make a lasting impression. ;)
I use a back pack as a "tackle bag" with all the basic tackle, pliers, scale, line, multi-tool, grips for toothy fish etc... I also keep a couple of zip loc bags for my wallet/phone/keys just in case I need to get wet for any reason.
Bucket and multi tool of some sort are popular :-*
Definitely can't forget the hats ~c~
I go light, one rod and small pack. It holds a bottle of water on the side and inside it holds digital scales, one small box for spinners, one small box for cranks and gator bag for some softs, hooks and a few bullet weights. A small front pocket for a camera and hemostats. My EDC consists of a CRKT 13SFG, Gerber Dime and an Olight Raider and like most I always have my phone fully charged before I leave the house.
I have a tackle bag that I can sling over my shoulder. I also know ahead of time what I plan to fish so I will take at most 3 poles. The bag has a cutting tool, pliers, multi-tool, lures, line spray and fish scent just in case. I always have a hat, sunscreen and water too.
I highly recommend some sort of pepper spray or gun. I shared a story of running into a dog that ended without incident, but it could have been bad. I was fishing near a bridge, which also happened to be where a homeless guy lived with his dog. As I left, the dog was not happy I was in his territory. Thought I was going to have to shoot him until the homeless guy called him and thankfully the dog left. You never know what you will run into.
Up north we used to have to fight off snapping turtles and muskrats for our keepers. Fun times LOL
Nobody mentioned a first aid kit, but I always pack at least some bandaids, Advil, alcohol swabs, antibiotic ointment, and whistle. Comes in handy for scrapes, punctured, and other booboos that can happen along the bank. Also, I always have a camera and cell phone, pliers with line shears, my tackle bag, some water to drink, and a handkerchief to wipe off my sunglasses when they get splashed.

I fish nekkid. It is my secret. Or it was. I also use lots of bug spray.
Oops. Sorry Mike.
Lots of great stuff here... DW I might scare the grand kids if I did that :shocking:
I use my Camelback cycling bag. It holds a water bladder, which is nice to not have to touch a water bottle with fish slime.
This time of year I bring the frog rod and a few different types and colors of frogs. Throughout the year I bring the lures I'm using that day. Usually a bag of plastics and a small container of hooks and jig heads. Also the usual pliers, small spool of line/leader, first-aid kit, towel, gum and a snack or two.
I always wear long sleeves and pants to keep the skeeters off. My hat, and of course I have a Thermacell hanging off my bag.
The pic is from yesterday evening. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190805/41e6e94685ce3faa1063108f92fc8c16.jpg)

Maybe that will work
You don't see that every day !
Very nice crappie and on a topwater!
I wear a surf belt I made for surf fishing. It has a rod holder, fish gripper, hemostats, fixed blade knife, large pouch for often needed tackle and plastics.
I wear a backpack for less often needed tackle, water, stick in the ground rod holder.
I take a fishing backpack. It holds 4 plano style 3500 storage boxes ( not that I take 4 boxes). Plus has another compartment for regular storage which i use for bug spray, sunscreen and drinks/food (typically protein bars).
Also bring pliers/clippers, a knife, face covering, sunglasses w/ multiple lens options, and a hat.
I always wear pants, either jeans or hiking pants depending on weather with boots. Top wear is a loose fitting rash guards for sun protection.
Not much I can add to what's already been said but here are two that jump immediately to mind.
A PFD! I wear an auto-inflate PFD even when bank fishing now. Bank terrain is rarely flat and easy to navigate. You can drown in an inch or two of water and all it takes is a simple slip and a bang on the head when you fall in and it's lights out, maybe permanantly.
Spare spools for all your reels you have with you. Also some spare spools of line. Nothing will ruin a day faster than if you only have one rod and something happens to your line to where you can't fish with it anymore.
Also bring some panfish tackle and a rod if you can. Two reasons - First you can use this as a search method for bass. If you can find the bluegills, crappie or whatever then the bass are likely to be close by. :-*
Second, if you can't get the bass to bite at least you can catch something. Maybe some fillets for the freezer if it's safe to eat the fish in your waters.
I have a bunch of different sized tackle bags I can throw over my shoulder. I also have a backpack but it's not specifically a fishing backpack so I've been looking at a few made specifically for anglers and will probably purchase one this summer.
When wading I have a wader belt that holds a surprising amount of tackle in a small space.
And Don M, yes a folding chair is a must! Especially for an old geezer like myself. ;D
I'm usually with the wife and son, so we take quite a bit. I have a large backpack that will hold all of our tackle. It usually has 4-5 3700 boxes, quite a bit of soft plastics, pliers, nail clippers, bug spray (lots of ticks), small first aid kit, and a couple of water bottles. Either my son or I will carry that, and the other will carry the 5-6 rods. We normally ride bikes to the couple of places we bank fish. We also have one, but need to get more, of these tripod seats that are small and light from Bass Pro. Those are great for bank fishing and easy to carry.
