Title: The good, the bad and the ugly.
Post by: Oldfart9999 on August 23, 2019, 07:13:36 PM
Went to Conesus Lake this morning, temp in the mid 50s clear sky, just a hint of a breeze, dark30. Figured I'd start with a buzzbait shallow, no go but I noticed some fish jumping, big fish, tournament winning fish. I switched to a spook, had the wrong rod for it but made what I had work, a 6 foot 6 inch cranking stick, I prefer 7 footer. I had 8 hits and these 3 made it into the boat, the first one is 181/4, one of the ones I lost was a match for the big one. The other 2 were 151/4 and 17 inches respectively. I started a little before 6,  the bite died about 7. I went through jigs swimsuits, creature baits Rage Craws and finally a trick work before I got another hit, a 3 pounder I lost when I reached for my rule, never do anything before getting the fish in the boat.
The good, figuring it out, the bad, not hooking up 5  that hit the spook, the ugly, losing a good fish because I got ahead of myself and lost a good fish. Over all I'm happy with the day.
Conesus Lake is the western most Finger Lake, it's 8 miles long, at it's widest 1 mile, 3,420 acres, max depth is about 66 feet. It's known as a big fish lake and a finicky lake. One day it can take 20 plus pounds to win another day, same weather conditions can take 11 pounds. Conesus has at least one tournament on weekends and every Tuesday evening a working man's tournament along with fun fishermen by the ton,  very popular lake.

Appreciate the report OF, thank you for sharing. Those fish may not be long but they are butterball's. Very nice looking husky bass you've caught yourself there.  ~c~

Yes, I'm going to have to find long skinny fish for Ibass, ours are too well fed.
This what I got today on my home waters, I was drop shotting a break wall in about 31/2 row. I left early because of high winds and a kayak tournament that drove me off the water.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190825/52cb982a9e43ed694db6a47a3804d888.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190825/54fc2911356d734146e5522ffd395b03.jpg)
