Title: Not what you like to see
Post by: fishballer06 on November 09, 2019, 09:56:10 AM
This is not what you like to see whenever you come home to your new GLoomis...

Thankfully the rod wasn't broken whenever I opened the packaging. However, I am leery as to how it will hold up on the first cast or hook set. Has anyone else ever dealt with a damaged rod in shipping?

Damaged tubes, yes. Damaged rods with a damaged tube, no. Damaged rod with an undamaged tube, yes.  lo  You should be just fine.

Even Lee was shocked when I told him. Lucky it was just a guide, but a Torzite none the less.

Ouch!

If I'm reading the tube correctly that company would have replaced the ro d if it was broken. Just might have been a little bit of a hassle though. I'm surprised they used a cardboard tube and not PVC.

Yeah, I'm sure ALF would. I sent them a message with the pictures attached just so they're aware that their rod tubes are failing, and then if the rod breaks the first time I use it, it's documented.

I would have been sick seeing that, glad the rod wasnt damaged as well and hopefully the rod doesnt have any damage that you cant see. I bet you will be holding your breathe on that first cast hoping for the best.

Wow, kudos to ALF for their customer service. They responded already and after a few messages back and forth, they're sending me a new rod and a return label on Monday.

Apologies for the inconvenience.  The rod is likely ok if there appears to be no structural damage but let's not take any chances since it's a limited edition model.  I will email you a prepaid return label to send it back. Do you have another tube you can use to send this rod back to us?

We will make sure you get a replacement rod shipped out first thing next week.

Don't be surprised if the new one looks the same. I've received several in cardboard tubes that looked like that but never a broken rod. And they haven't broken during fishing yet either.

Tube busted in half but rod was still good. Best packing is TW.

Seems like every body is moving away from using PVC in favor of heavy duty cardboard.  ;)

I know things happen even with PVC sometimes, and it's heavier so it costs more to ship but if paying that much for a rod I'd be willing to pay the seller extra for the PVC tube.

I bought a rod online and it came in a heavy cardboard type tube like that but that tube was strong as hell, it was all I could do to get it open, even the end caps did not want to come off without a fight.  Glad your rod was fine though.
