RG is in the very low 50s, somewhat stained, and there is the big shad kill finishing up. Lots of seagulls picking up 4" half-dead shad, more in the lower lake.  Makes fishing hard b/c fish are surrounded by dying bait all the time.  Froze to death my first trip on 3/15 - forgot my jacket and had to wrap myself in a tarp  with only my head and tiller arm sticking out.  Next two trips I got a bass each time, large one was 20" with big mouth, prob 4lbs.  Didn't see anyone else catch or mention that four letter word (fish).

I complain about WSSC from time to time but they deserve some credit.  The lake shoreline is cleaned up, end of ramp at SC improved last year, plus, they held my mooring stake application on 3/15 until someone didn't renew so I got it 3/20.  Finally, they give free 2021 permit for those who purchased 2020, only to be shut out by COVID 9 days later. 

I made it out last weekend and launched from Browns Bridge for the first time with the hope that the water would be warmer.  I saw temps from 47 to 51.  I did not see anything on my fish finder nor did i have any bites.  I'm not really that good at colder water fishing though...

I was out on Triadelphia today, monday, this past saturday, and wednesday of last week. Water temps were around 44 last week, up to 51 today. I got 1 pike on my first cast on my first day out last week. Then was skunked until today when I got a bass on a spinnerbait.

I'm not seeing much on the scanner yet either. I will be back out tomorrow. I'm waiting for it to wake up.

Best of luck... unfortunately im going to the eastern shore to fish this weekend and wont be able to make it to RG... May try Friday evening though.

What exactly did they "clean up" on the shoreline? I know a lot of those fallen trees provide cover in the early spring. The biggest problem when I was last there about 4 years ago was the "shore crew" leaving their trash and such. I used to see the shad die off a lot in the fall, not too much in the spring, probably from them coming out of hibernation a bit early. March is usually a hit or miss time on the reservoirs, if you guys get a warming trend the next couple weeks things should pick up. 

don't worry, just cleaned up the dangerous and fallen trees on land, wood-chipped them to make nice clean hillsides around the picnic areas and ramp.  Used to get black snakes and giant water spiders in my canoe until I changed spots. 

also got around to looking at the pic of 2nd bass, over 21".  it was mid-Gorge suspending about 8' deep in main lake around corner from spawning cove.

I hooked another pike in triadelphia this afternoon. No bass this trip. Carp were rolling all around about midway back one of the larger coves mid lake.

Nice early spring bass! They have started taking a bigger interest in the facilities since they went to permits for everything which is nice. Those two reservoirs are nice places to fish and bowhunt, the crown jewels of the tri-county area!

Sure sign spring is there and the waters are warming up- carp rolling in the shallows. I remember years ago fishing from the Brown's Bridge area and they were doing that on the shoreline just above Brown's Bridge. At first I thought they were bass but once I got a bit closer and saw they were carp, talk about a letdown.

Went to a different arm today and replicated where I found the big girl yesterday and got 3 , 2 dinks and 1 football, probbly 4 lbs.  . Sure enough same type of area. I'm headed to the beach this weekend and almost sad I'm probably going to miss some good fishing later this week!

Congrats, sounded like 2 good days. There is a long bar across from Greenbridge Ramp that is usually good in the spring also, drops into the river channel. The name of the cove there is Nichols Cove, was always feast or famine for me. I rewally miss the place this time of year.

I know the area you're talking about. I fish it sometimes, but honestly never really got many bass there. Have got some nice crappies on the drop-off though.

I know the area you're talking about. I fish it sometimes, but honestly never really got many bass there. Have got some nice crappies on the drop-off though.

The area was always kind of hit or miss for me- some days, I could sit on the point and catch bass on rettletraps and crankbaits, some days they wouldn't play. There is a huge flat just north of the pipeline, it has a lot of rock and some stumps on it, that drops into the channel- beneath it there is a rockpile that they sometimes will sit on before moving onto the flat to spawn. You shouldn't have any trouble finding it if the water is clear. I am going to have to get back up that way, maybe before summer and wet a line in the reservoirs again. I do miss the reservoirs, we have a lot of lakes but nothing like the reservoirs.

shad die off mostly over.  not many bites but got my 2nd 5lber this year on a secondary point inside a large cove (Florida cove).  marked it on sonar suspending before the bite.  so that is the legit tip, look for suspending fish moving towards spawning grounds.   don't always keep an eye on all the net threads so nothing personal if I lose track of this thread and replies.

Nice bass! Makes me miss the reservoir even more. Be glad when this pandemic is over and we can travel about again.

Where are all my fishing friends from Triadelphia and Rocky Gorge? Have you guys not been doing much fish or has the action slowed up to nothing?

Revolution- can you let us know how you have been doing? Just curious, I am 850 miles south of the reservoirs, so just keeping tabs on how the fishing is there, that's all

Since post spawn I have been exploring spots in the rez that are new to me, and I've been having decent luck finding fish. There are a lot of interesting areas that don't look like anything from afar.

Now that summer is in full swing, the fish are going deep and a little more spread out, but they haven't seemed to stop biting. Water level is starting to draw down. It's down probably 3 maybe 4 feet from full pool now. I like it when it's a bit lower than full pool.

 I always liked fishing the points that would be exposed when the summer drawdown occured- a lot of the points in Rocky Gorge would drop into the channel, had some good days fishing plastic worms and Senkos on them. The summer pattern used to be they would cruise the shallows until the sun started hitting the water, usually around 9 am and they would go deep and sometimes not feed again until dusk. Lots of action at sunrise this morning. Put 12 in the boat in a 40 minute period, then the bite fell off.

Good job. Sounds like the typical summer pattern- once that sun hits the water, they shut off and head back to the deep until sunset.

For anyone interested- WSSC has again decided to keep both reservoirs open this winter for shore fishing only, the same deal as last winter. Permits are required and the reservoirs will be open weather permitting. Haven't seen a post on here since July, so either no one is fishing the reservoirs or they are tight lipping it.

Hi RR, my last visit was early November to Tri, managed to find a few but nothing huge.  Have spent most of Oct and Nov on the eastern shore ponds - a little easier to locate fish -  ;D

 The eastern Shore ponds are much easier to fish because they are a lot smaller than the reservoirs. The bass should be moving shallow to fatten up for the winter and if you fish there the next couple weeks, look for the shad die off in the shallow areas by the shorelines. I caught my personal best smallmouth at Triadelphia in 2008 the week of Thanksgiving water temp was in the high 50's, had a 4 lb 8 oz. smallie nail a white chatterbait fished in about 4 ft of water just past where the fuel pipeline goes underwater. I may try and get up there this winter since they will be open to shore fishing only and see if I can get me a few.

G Shappell- You will still be able to shore fish from Triadelphia with the exception of Greenbridge and Pig tail I think it is which will be the staging areas for the dredging project. I hope they don't mess up any good area's uplake by dredging. There are some decent shore fishing areas that will give you access to fish. I hope to get up there and wet a line in the spring. Rocky Gorge will be open, hopefully the 3 ramps won't get pummelled by boats, if you have a kayak or canoe, Browns Bridge would be ideal place to launch- gives you good access to the Rt. 29 bridge from uplake and a lot of good spots along the way!

Hey, Has anyone done any fishing in Rocky Gorge this year so far? I know Triadelphia is closed to boating, but still can access the shorelines there.
