I fished with a buddy who is dialed in on this lake for smallies and we had a decent day in 20 mph winds all day long. We struggled at first, but got the pattern after a couple of hours and got on some decent fish. We hit for the cycle. 1 large, 1 pike, 1 white and multiple smallmouth. Since this is a small fishery, I won't discuss baits, but this is a great gem in the New Mexico desert.....

Getting on smallies like that is a blast. Thanks for sharing your report and photos.

The last time I fished here was 16 years ago, when I would walk the bank and fish as far as I could. I usually caught largemouth and whites, but never smallmouth. Now, it's completely flipped as a fishery....
Looks like the smallies are growing well too ~c~ ~c~
We have been hitting the lake for a month now and have had a hard time getting anything. I caught a good pike a couple of weeks back, but that is it. I have always primarily fished for Largemouth, and know this is primarily a Smallmouth lake. I know the time of year and water temps might have something to do with the slow bite.
Any tips for this lake in particular, or Smallmouth in general? I am new to offshore fishing and have just started within the last month or so.
