Title: Camp Far West 6-17
Post by: Pat Dilling on June 19, 2021, 01:50:43 PM
Our local old f@rts fishing club, aka Slow Trollers, had a fishing fun day at Camp Far West near Wheatland.  Water level is falling with the lake about 40 feet down.  Water temp 75-79.  This was a fun day, no tournament , and we had 8 boats fishing.  Everyone caught fish with spotted bass up to 3+ pounds and a few largemouth.  The catfish were also biting, my partner and I caught 3 on Ned rigs!  Others reported catching them too.  Look for steeper areas with rock for best results.  Fish were in 5-20 feet.  No reaction or topwater fish reported, all finesse and jigs.  It was HOT, 100 degrees when we pulled off at noon, and just a slight breeze.  Tips:  Fish early before the heat, hot boats and skiers get on the water.

Used to love sneaking out the back gate and fishing Camp Far West. Do they still have some stripers in it?

Be careful in that heat, we have a mid week $10 tournament here as well but we quit in the heat and start back in the fall...

The stripers are long gone.  I guess they really will sterile, at least most of them.  It's a fun lake to fish if you get you there before  pleasure boaters start going crazy.  Yes we are careful about the heat.  Start early, quit early.
