Called the "Lowland Cichlid" and because they reproduce quickly can take over native fish areas. If you catch one you're supoosed to kill it. Looks almost like a Tilapia to me.

Folks like you and I happily do our part to clean up our waters and environment without additional incentives, but putting a value on the invasive species helps usher it into extinction.
Tournaments are a great way to thin the population, but I think there also needs to be some kind of bounty/reward placed on invasive species as well, not just this species, but all of them. Even if it's just some kind of ongoing recognition on a web page by the game/fisheries folks.

Lord knows we have our fair share of invasive fish in FL and more than our share in South FL. Cichlids reproduce at a high rate. Might be too late to get a handle on this one.
Our Peacock bass were introduced for this reason, as a predator for invasive cichlids. 30 years later, they all call South FL home. lo

So which really IS their correct name, and are any of those four legitimately more correct than the incredibly "racist" descriptor of their origination?
This would be a fun discussion to have while fishing for chinquapin, I'll tell ya what.

Someone said arapaima have been found in Lake Okeechobee and the Glades as well. It's name translates to "Red Fish". So does that make it offensive to Native Americans or Saltwater fisherman?

Asian carp is a catch-all for three of the species (silver, bighead and black). Call 'em by their proper name and don't need no 'asian' reference.

I've seen videos of folks water skiing with samurai swords and going ninja on the silver carp. Fun times, I kind of want to try it but I don't know if I could ski anymore.
