Title: Abu Garcia Stagnation?
Post by: chadyp on July 25, 2021, 01:45:37 PM
Does anyone else think that the Revo line has stagnated the last couple years? Especially now that every rod maker is now making reels that are basically the same.

Can Abu come back or is Pure fishing just going to let them go the way they have let pflueger go

I think you just answered your own question sadly. I used to be a big Quantum guy, but even they went downhill when W.C. Bradley acquired them back in 2001 if I remember.. Only good thing is, now Lew's/Strike King's parent company, Rather Outdoors, bought them. Hopefully they can make a come back in quality.

I missed that too. As soon as I saw that post I looked it up and it happened in February.

Really, they are ABU in name only like Lews  . I personally wouldn't buy either but they do have some folks who like them.
The best rod they have is the Fantasista but it's priced against some good competition.   I thought they may try to build the Fenwick brand as a upper end rod but that hasn't happened either.

From a customer service stand point, I was worried when things for Lews swapped over to Rather. However they have been outstanding as well. Only problem right now is that they are moving the Lew's warehouse and I can't get parts until they set it back up  :surrender:

I loved my Lew's Carbon Fire combos. Only issue I had was with the spinning reel. The "ramp" for the bell, rounded off after a year of hard usage. But was a great reel for the time I had it.

As for Abu, honestly the best Abu I ever owned was my Black Maxx baitcast combo. That rod (son broke it) was my best worm rod on Lake Osbourne. The reel, as long as I kept the level wind worm clean after each trip, the reel lasted me two years till I let my son have it (after he broke my rod..)

I have one of the Fantasista rods. I won it as part on my ROY title price back in 2012 and it is still one of my favorite and sensative rods that I own.

Back to the Abu reels. I really love my older Revo's, so much so that I am going to start looking for some used ones online and clean them up. So far parts for these older Abu's are still plentiful.

The "Big Three" company reels I only look at now are : Daiwa , Lew's & Shimano ... If I can't find what I'm looking for there - I probably don't need it .
