Title: Swim jig no trailer
Post by: chadyp on December 23, 2021, 08:21:14 PM
So the guy who had caught two 15lb bass this year in Texas was using a swim jig with no trailer. Also uses live scope.
What are everyone's thoughts about no trailer jigs.

What are trailers for? Do you throw spinnerbaits without trailers?

I use trailers to control depth, speed, and for action. But often I throw jigs without trailers.
I use a poc-it craw to keep the bait above the grass. A beaver is used to run through the grass. and twin tail grubs for more vibration.
In thick cover I throw naked jigs.

ive used both with and without trailers.  In thick grass I tend to leave the trailer in the bag and go with a little bigger swimjig.   I havent caught a 15 pounder yet though  lo

I would credit live scope more so than the bait. That guy seems to catch a bunch of big fish.

What Zippy said, +1.   I am and will remain totally against live scopes. I guess the tour will allow generators, electro-shocking and dynamite next year.

Funny how a wire rig with 5 baits is SHAMED AND BANNED but you can literally see fish swimming LIVE and that's perfectly OK in the tourney world. Bet those same guys who couldn't catch em with a Bama rig can't with livescope either!!!

That being said the Josh guy has mastered this new technology and can flat out catch some monsters!!

Another reason for trailers is to help the bass "suck" in the bait. The added bulk helps in doing this. I remember seeing a video from Larry Nixon about this years and years ago. It makes alot of sense to me!

Been following this thread. For the life me, can't remember a time where I didn't have a trailer with my swimjigs.

Yeah I think the jig just looks "off/weird" without a trailer on it. Maybe I'll try going "bait naked" lol!!

I guess my cognitive fishing skills are worse than I knew. I fish jig heads without brush guards, without skirts but there's usually a plastic something. Saying he caught them on a swim jig without a trailer sounds like he caught them on half a spinner bait to me. I guess I'd try a hair jig? Live scope would never occur to me either.
