What type of locks are you using on your trailer?
For me, I use a coupler lock for the trailer and also a locking pin for the receiver to the truck. I don't use a lock on the trailer hitch ball so someone could use a wrench to take off the trailer hitch ball and they could steal the whole trailer if they had the time and nobody else was around.
I also used to use locks on each wheel and spare tire but haven't done that yet on this boat. How much is overkill?

I have a locking B&W tow and stow 2 way ball (which you can't remove) and locking pin in the coupler.

I just use a padlock for the trailer once it's hooked to the trailer hitch ball. I have a locking pen for the receiver.
I use a trailer coupler lock and a receiver pin lock. In the past I've used a chisel to stake the ball nut making it pretty difficult to remove. I recently bought a new hitch with more drop and haven't staked the ball nut yet, I may just touching it with the welder instead this time. I probably should put wheel locks on it too.
I also use a locking pin but don't forget to oil it, I have had the key not function and I couldn't get it unlocked. On the ball I have had it spot welded, but this time I put J weld on the threads. Easy!
I didn't even think of JB Weld or spot welding the threads on the ball. Great advice.
Kind of an old thread, but I thought I'd bring it back up instead of starting another.
My coupler lock is crap. Sometimes it wants to work, sometimes not. Anyone know of a good coupler and receiver lock set that are keyed the same?

Been a while since I've owned a boat but Trimax makes a good set with round keys.
The locks can't be picked, they would have to be drilled out by a crook and that's a lot of noise to draw attention.

With the advancement of today's battery powered saws, I don't think any of the coupler or receiver locks are are going to completely prevent theft by a determined POS criminal, but they will slow them down. Heck 30 minutes in a parking lot and they drive out with half a dozen catalytic converters. Etrailer dot com has several Masterlock coupler/receiver lock sets keyed alike. I have an older coupler lock that conceals the pin, but I'm sure a few good wacks with a hammer and cold chisel would remove it. The receiver lock is pretty healthy but like most of the ones out there. Staking or welding the nut on the ball is a worthwhile preventative measure.
Locks help prevent the crime of opportunity, but determined thieves are going to be deterred.
I have a bit of an OCD method where I not only use my normal Master Lock, but I have a tendency to wrap my saftey chains around the hitch and lock them into the Latch. Reason? Because a lot of these theifs will use your chains to hold the trailer to their bumper while they drag it to a different spot. I also have a cable and lock through the one wheel and on my outboard to the handles of the boat. So 3 locked points in total for me.

Wow, crazy stuff. I worry about stealing electronics and gear but, if they want the boat, I'll just call Jake and tell him to cut me a check to replace it..
