Title: Black Lake Campti 7 May 2022
Post by: Mike Cork on May 10, 2022, 12:05:44 PM
Fished the H & W Team Trail with my partner. We had a solid game plan and unlike so many times on tournament day our plan worked even better than expected. My partner and I do pretty well when it's a tough bite and when 100 teams of top anglers show up to fish a lake like Campti, you expect some big weights, but 19 won, 15 for second and we came in third with 14.88. It was a very tough post front day on a lake that is completely in post spawn and the bass are scattered to the wind...

We started the day off south of the bridge in an area we felt like we could get a limit. Limit or not we were going to leave about lunch time and go to some big fish water we had found. We had our limit at 8:30 on top water but stuck it out with a jig until 10 hoping for a bigger bite and no luck. So with our small limit we headed to our big fish water earlier than expected and went back to topwater fishing the shade of the cypress tree jungle. Managed a couple of solid upgrades putting us in the big check money (good to be in the top 5 again, it's been a while)

Water was 1-1.5 visibility, I'd have to say right at pool. Weather was blue bird sky's with NO wind.

Well done! I think I've caught 3 bass from that lake in 12 years.

Saturday was the first day of a heat wave we are in now. It was only 88 but no wind and no clouds... yep it got hot quick... We're in the upper nineties now  :'(

On Black Lake it is extremely minimal, even above the bridge. Other lakes are still in bad shape.

Yeah, with Black Lake and Bistineau being basically the same I figured Black Lake was doomed since Bistineau has never recovered. But I was extremely surprised. There must be something else in Bistineau's set up that is preventing the LDWF's process from working. It's working on Black Lake.
