It's time, the season is winding down, except for you in the south, that you put up your gear for winter things. It's a good time to go over your equipment, reel cleaning and overhauling, Mike will do it if you're not comfortable tearing one down. Time to clean the rods, scrub the handles, check the guides for cracks and loose threads, and give them a coat of wax. Time to go through your tackle, make a list of what needs to be replaced or replenished, clean your cranks and jerk baits, clean and replace skirts on your spinnerbaits, buzz baits and chatterbaits, don't forget to polish or replace those blades. Replace hooks that need it.
Just as important, spend some time here and tell each other what worked what didn't, what gave you the most pleasure and what you are looking forward to in the upcoming year.

Id like to know what people are using on their rods specifically the eyes to remove the crud. I have several rods with micro eyes and I hate trying to do any scrubbing around them. Currently I use a very small amount of Dawn dish soap in some warm water and a very soft bristled brush. It works but would prefer a spray on cleaner and rinse off.

I use rubbing alcohol and a q-tip.
*Good maintenance tips - but I'm still bass'n even though afternoon temps are barely hitting high 40's to low 50's . Conversely , I do believe it's a good time of year to have a Pro (like Mike) do a deep cleaning & lube of your most often used reels , so you will b ready for Spring !
I use dish soap with a soft cloth or soft bristle brush to scrub both the eyes and grips, grips need cleaning get the built up sweat and dirt out. A soft finger nail brush works well, you can be gentle but thorough. I'd be interested in what FD has to say on the matter.
