i am fishing Clearlake CA tomorrow off my kayak. tommorow is special, because i have new rod and reel combo. i kid you not when i say, at the beginning of summer most of my combos revolved around a Dobyns Fury. a GREAT rod on it's own merits, but i made the decision to step it up in gear slowly. a quality over quantity approach. i might not need 13 combos, but 6-7 really good ones instead.
this is my latest and probably my last purchase for 2023.
Defender P5 FMJ rod topped with a Shimano 22-Bantam. i loaded it with 14lb Sunline Sniper. i like to stay on the lighter end of the spectrum even for the bottom contact stuff. my lakes are fairly wide open. i casted it yesteday with a practice plug and it was shocking. i almost hit my neighbors car, parked very far away. i had to thumb it hard.
i dont think my fellow local fisherman fish a Carolina rig often, so that will be my first attmempt tomorrow morning. i am dragging a big worm.
Clearlake is 20 degress cooler air temps tomorrow. i hope the fish are chewing and have moved off the flats and headed towards the tule shores. heck,i might need a sweater!! ahhah
go time.!
