Title: Princeton Man Boat Trailer Problem
Post by: Bud Kennedy on October 22, 2023, 02:41:54 PM
Looks like Jim had an axle failure on his boat trailer on the way home from Guntersville.  Kinda hard to tell from the pics.  I am sure he will provide details when he can.

I saw the pics on Facebook. Wasn't sure exactly what was going on. As long as he wasn't hurt the rest is just "stuff".

IIRC someone had a trailering problem on the way home from one of the earlier rallies as well but I'm not certain.

man oh man sorry to hear that PM.  yikes!

hopefully you were sorta close to home?

I had a brake problem once a rock got caught causing the brakes to stay stuck which was an insane amount of smoke.  I also had a Ranger seat fly out once...

Dang! Rough way to end a trip. I'm assuming no one was hurt or anything?

Hope there wasn't any real damage done to the trailer just the wheel hub assembly.

Yup....

I posted about it in the rally thread. It could have been really bad. No damage to the boat, amazingly the wheel missed everyone and wound up on the narrow left shoulder. It could have been a whole lot worse. From the time the bearing started smoking to the wheel coming off was like 20 seconds. From everything we found it appears one of the bearings broke. No unusual tire wear, and I'm expecting insurance to cover everything.

Stratos Buddy, tks for the update.  Glad to hear there wasn't any serious damage.

Just to follow up for everyone, my Progressive insurance with Sign & Glide took care of everything. Since one tire and wheel was damaged, they actually replaced two tires and wheels because my wheels are no longer available. They also paid to replace the damaged fender and all the suspension repairs as well as the towing. ~c~

Good to hear they took care of you. So many insurance stories seem to go the other way these days.

My only complaint was also voiced by Lou in his recent thread. The folks answering the phone seem to have no clue or clout when it comes to requesting a tow. We both spent an awful long time setting on the shoulder of the road waiting for a tow. In my case, I finally asked the Deputy to have their dispatcher send a tow. He passed along specifics about estimated weight, length, etc. and the tow  showed up 15 minutes later.
