Title: Best Reel In the 150 Range?
Post by: PaulMc on February 08, 2024, 05:21:58 PM
I've looked into the 13 Fishing Concept A Gen 2, and also the Shimano Slx MGL 70, which one would you chose or are there any other good options in this range?

I have the MGL 70. It's a pretty nice reel for the price point.

I just went to Bass Pro the other day looking at reels. I wanted to buy a SLX MGL 70, but they didn't have a left-handed one, so I ended up spending more than I wanted to and got the Curado MGL 150. My son has a SLX (his is the DC though) and likes his a lot. I think he said he wants another one but in a non-DC model (either the A or the MGL).

He also had a 13Fishing reel that did not hold up very well and gave him a lot of problems, but I cannot remember which model it was. It might've been one of their lower-end reels that he won in a tournament. I can look when I get home. I think he still has it somewhere.

If you do your own reel maintenance I'd definitely recommend the Shimano, while 13 fishing has a decent reel the maintenance is difficult.

I use several SLX reels and they are great for their price point. If maintained you can expect many years out of them.

Check out Lews too, not sure which models will be in the price range but I've really started liking the newer Lews.

Daiwa is always a good choice but they are completely different internally.
