Title: Slow Trollers Lake Shasta Report
Post by: Pat Dilling on May 19, 2024, 04:02:06 PM
We had a smaller crew this year, not sure why.  Just 10 guys in 5 boats.  As usual, Lake Shasta did not disappoint.  Once we figured out how to get away from the nursery full of 6-8" spotted bass, things were pretty darn good.  The lake is full of both water and spotted bass.  The fellas were experiencing 40 to 80 fish days and we were usually back at the dock by 2.  Fish were in the top 15 feet.  Not much of a reaction bite, most were caught on some sort of soft plastic.  The go-to bait for my 89 year old partner Al and I was a PBJ ZMan Hula Stikz on an 1/8 weedless jighead.  Sometimes they wanted it moving, but I caught a lot of fish deadsticking it.  Flooded willow trees usually had lots of fish around them. Water was 67-71 degrees, with 8 to 15 feet visibility.  I am attaching some pictures, including my wounded thumb.
