Title: Best fish finder for my set up?
Post by: johnnybass24 on June 27, 2024, 11:20:05 AM
Good morning all! I'm new to the forum but I just bought a Lund pro V with a Hummingbird Helix 9 mounted to the dash, but I plan to add one to the bow for when I'm fishing by myself. Anyway I'd like to have the best quality so I'm planning to spend a decent amount on this new one. I'm rather new to fish finders but have been using the Helix 9 and really liking it so far. I'm using a Minnkota Terrova in the front. Just wanted to ask you folks which one you would suggest I buy? I was thinking I might want to move the helix 9 to the bow and buy a larger screen for the main console but not sure? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I have a 12 at the helm and a 16 on the bow.  My reasoning is that my eyes are farther away from the bow screen and I want a larger screen to see stuff.  In the drivers seat, I'm only a foot away from the screen, so I'd rather have a smaller screen with finer detail.

I have the Lowrance HDS Live 12 at the helm and Lowrance Carbon 16 on the bow.

If I were to switch to the new Ultrex Quest trolling motor down the road, I would swap out the Lowrance for Humminbird to take advantage of the combination....

If you're gonna run two different size units, I'd put the bigger screen at the bow if it were me, for the same reasons apenland said above. But I've seen people run them the other way, too. I assume they have their reasons. Mine are both the same size.

There are 13 different Helix 9's and four different possibilities for a Terrova transducer. Which of each do you have?
