Title: Your Favorite Lake in Indiana
Post by: crappiehunter on November 16, 2006, 08:13:27 PM
I'll enter! My favorite body of water is the Kankakee River. I fish a lot of places on the river but my favorite is a place called Horseshoe Bend. It's located near LaCrosse, IN on Rt. 421. The bait shop that I'd like to recommend is Country Bait Shop. It's located on the corner of Rt. 6 and Meridan Ave/Campbell, north of Valparaiso. No website for the baitshop but good bait and service. I caught these crappies at Horseshoe Bend today...

Thanks for having the contest!  Crappiehunter

My favorite lake was Pike Lake. I lived in IN for a year and a half so I haven't fished them all, but this tiny lake in the Warsaw city limits is over looked by bass fishermen. It's known for walleye, but on one trip to the lake I would have had 27lbs. in a 5 fish limit tournament and best of all they all came on buzzbaits! I would have been culling 4 pounders all day.

Hello to all!

So many different lakes to choose from.... Hmmmmm

I tournament fished in Indiana for about 15 years, and I've fished a lot of water here, so the choices are difficult...

Favorites are in no particular order:
Hoffman Lake - near Warsaw
Waubee Lake - Milford
Lake Michigan
Maxinkuckee - Culver

I left out a lot of others - I like fishin' them all!

KickinBass:  I grew up in DeMotte, I never fished Lasalle the entire time I lived up their though.  Fished alot of the River upper end towards the NIPSCO plant discharges, and all throughout Jasper county mostly farm ponds though.

My Favorites these days are.
Patoka
BlueGrass FW
Ohio River

I would have to say Lake Griffy in Bloomington, IN.  I know it isn't a state lake but is an excelant fishery.

First choice would be Winona, then Pike, and last Banning lake on the Barbee Chain.

Pike should be booming this year!

Try Wolf Lake in Hammond.  AMAZING city fishing.  I've caught Largemouth, Smallmouth, Stripers, Hybrids, Blue Cats, Channel Cats, Pike, Tiger Muskie, Perch, Walleye, Carp (40lbs+) and of course Bluegill and Sunfish from Wolf Lake and George Lake which is just across Calumet Ave.

I fish mostly of weekdays, so traffic isn't usually an issue. I'd say Indiana Lakes would be

1. Raccoon Lake (solid largemouth bass, tons of channel cats, big stripers)

2. Freeman (smallies and smallies and more smallies)

3. Monroe (I'm there in under an hour and I always catch fish)

Nothing's better than a walk down Sugar Creek. . .but I guess that's not really a lake.

my favorite lake would totally have to be a private lake called the moose! you have to be a member but after u become a member you wont wanna leave! cuz in one day i caught 23 bass!! i had about 17 pounds in 4 fish!and thats just from usin one lure!!!  ~gf  i still think that i couldnt do anythin wrong that day!!! even my grandpa had caught 21 fish but that place would only let u take one fish home but we threw all the fish back for them to grow! then the biggest bass caught out of there was by m grandpa and that fish was a 7 pound bass!

Havent fished them all yet but I have lived in IN for 24 years and I would say Lake Hardy is my favorite for fishing but Monroe for the scenery but tricky to catch alot of fish there thou. My favorite tackle shop is Big River on St Rd. 46 heading towards Nashville,In   he is a great guy to deal with and has a great selection of lures.

Monroe: has great scenery with great fishing, I just dont get there enough to learn it well.
Raccoon: good quality fish. not too hard to find fish.
Mississinewa:  Much better since the Dam work, and the water brough back up.  Great Crappie fishing in the spring.

I'm late to the party, but easily Palestine south of Warsaw.  Very shallow, but a monster bass factory.  Tourney sacks are routinely above 20#.

PISGAH LAKE AT THE JOHNSON COUNTY FISH AND WILDLIFE AREA

Old lake with a roadbed going down the center and plenty of timber in the lake and on the banks. It's stained to muddy year round. 5 lb Largemouth are common. Small enough for John boat and a troller. 15 MINUTES FROM HOME  ;PEP)

I live in Florida now but I follow Jacob Wheeler on FB.  Did any of you by chance see a FB post by him last week with a 30+lb sack that came out of Geist?  I couldnt believe it.  I caught my first ever bass on geist when I was about 8 and literally havnt been on that water for over 40 years. I remember it being a nice lake then but it is ringed by homes now.  Sounds like a really nice fishery now.  Jim

Geist is fishing differently these days. The water is very clear now and has ALOT of underwater vegetation.
