Here in Shreveport they have a plastic barrel full of AllStar Rods for $29.00 baitcasters and spinning rods, right next to it is another barrel full of BPS Tournament Extreme Rods for $39.00. Just thought you guys might want to know. I love the green Extreme rods, they have the best grip & are very sensitive. I pitched out a 1/4onz weight on the carpet & could feel every little knot in it until it came off on to the tile, then I thought it might be smooth but still I could feel the ridges in the tile transmitted through the tip to my hand. Great rod!
Thanks for the info guess I will have to get over there and check it out. Did you leave any for us to play with :roll2:
I like the AllStars, but favor the green BPS Extreme rods. So yes there were plenty left. Maybe I should go get the rest & then sell them to you! LOL >:D
I love that "power hump" handle on the BPS rods. I've got to see if CountryKat Rods can get hold of those type of handles for my next custom rod.
Those handles are outstanding, very compotable & natural to hold onto, but I really like the sensitivity of the rod as well. I don't like the new black BPS IM8 near as much.
I've never used those AllStars myself. I'll have a chance to check them out since my Galyans store converts over to a Dick's Sporting Goods after tomorrow. I drove past today and they were taking down the old signs and putting up temp banners.
I own the BPS Extreme rod, really like it...got another one ;D
OHIO,
Since you work for Dicks who makes the Quest rod? They look good for the price.
Bman
I don't know...yet. I'll lay my hands on them when they come in to the store. If we can't figure out who makes them after we get to see them, I'll do some research and find out.
I wonder if they come from A-bos, like the Galyans rods did... :-\
I got an e-mail yesterday from BassPro. Their Extreme reels that are normally 79.99 are on sale for 49.99! I may have to try one for that price>
If you are interested in trying one, now is the time since they are only $50. I think I may seem negative about them in some of my other posts but I actually like using mine. Just not for tourneys. I still believe they are a good reel and are super for someone wanting to learn how to use a baitcaster. The bad experience I had with the Pro Qualifiers just keeps me from being able to depend on the BPS reels when it comes to 8 hours a constant use in T's.
I am one that wouldn't know the difference a good reel makes. I fish club tourney's also. Almost all of my reels were pawn shop finds with a couple of them being bought at Bass Pro. They are the $30 reels. I have never been able to afford $100 + for a reel. The cheap ones have always seemed to do just fine, but like I said...I wouldn't know any different! 8)
Maybe we'd all be better off if we didn't know. :-*
I think you will like the Extreme reels. Just stay away from the Curado if you want to keep from getting the Reel Monkey on your back. It seems like once you go over the $100 mark with reels and rods, there is no turning back. :shocking: My problem is that I have broken the $200 barrier with the purchase of that Chronarch SF. At least I got it for much less than retail.
I have sold many Quantum Energy and a couple of the Shimano Calais. Those anglers must have NO money in their pockets any more. One of the guys that bought a Calais was replacing one that he RAN OVER with his tow vehicle!!!
Man that must have hurt running ove a $350 reel. :'( Istarted out with cheapies and reel I got at auctions. Discovering what good reels are like is really a plague like Oh said. once you got it it can't be cured. Ya just keep feeding it.
BPS also has the Extreme Rod 0f your choice and the Curado reel {regular or free spool } for fifty $ off Great deal.

What Pro Qualifier reels were you using? I've always liked the look of the Pro Qualifier LT, which was a well equipped, light weight round baitcaster. I'm not sure if BPS even sells them anymore. Like I stated before in another section, I really like my Johnny Morris Ti series rod, but the matching reel wasn't up to par with the rod. That's my only experience with any BPS rods or reels. Later!
The PQ's that I used were the low-profile. I bought them since they seemed a little better for throwing lighter lures and smoother than the Extremes. But the bb's did not hold up to about an hour of throwing a light crankbait under tournament conditions. I can't say that I ever had the challenge with the Extremes, but they were replaced as well with Curados.
I have 5 of the extreme reels and would give them a try.. I can throw a 5" worm weightless. very smooth..
I have four of the BPS Extreme Baitcasters.. They work great,,no problems..They are not Shimano Chronarch's or Pflueger President's..But for $49 you can't miss.. I must admit I like the President best of all...
Good luck,
Jim
Thanks Jim,
I am sure that there are a lot of folks wondering about the quality of the BPS rods that were on sale. Welcome to the site and if you need help just holler there is always someone around to help out!!!
OK got a flyer that shows a big, big sale 12 - 20 Feb, with BPS Extream reels going for $49.00, they normally run 69 - 79.00.
Anyway if your looking for a reason to get more stuff, just start out telling your wife you have learned the error of your ways & want to take her shopping, >:D Then just go to BPS & load up, saying things like but honey its on sale, But I can get two for the price one one & well you know best what she hits you with so just turn the tables & have a blast!
Play Nice or Die!
Fogy
Fogy, Did you just get the flyer today? I haven't seen one yet, but I knew the sale was coming up & am trrying to wait until the 12th to go shopping. I was planning on waiting until "Midnight Madness" on the 18th, but I need a couple new reels before then.
No, got it Thursday or Friday. I see on the back they are doing a reel exchange, so you can get a Curado 200 for 99.00 if you trade in an old reel. BTW the old reels will be donated to local youth organizations to help out with their outdoor education programs. Sooooo you can save a few bucks and help out the community all at the same time. cool. ~c~
Dang-it...I didn't get one! :'( :-\
got my flyer today... the Curado combo for $139.99 ~shhh $80.00 off holy cow $20.00 rod $119.99 reel Almost priceless
I got mine yesterday finally. I think I am going to get a couple of the ones on the front cover. I don't remember exactly, but it was a Bass Pro combo for about $50. Valued at about $150.
Is this sale gonna be online too?!?!?
I just spent $250 there last night... :'(
The Sale don't start until the 12th then watchout baby gonna get the Credit Card out & go shopping! >:D
One important thing to keep in mind: if Bass Pro has a sale online, they will honor it at their stores.
Last year, I got the Johnny Morris combo for $100 less than the store price. At the local Bass Pro, the rod was $150 and the reel was $150. On line, they were each on sale for $99 a piece. I printed out the pages from my computer, brought them into the local Bass Pro, and they sold them to me at the sale price.
Not a bad deal.
One of my favorite rods is the BPS Rick Clunn. It has the thick cork grip, a titanium type Fuji lead system, and it feels great. I have 4 or 5 of them. I believe you can get them for $50 a piece. Well worth it, especially if you use braided line.
QuoteIt seems like once you go over the $100 mark with reels and rods, there is no turning back.
perhaps, but I own several custom built spinning rods...one cost 450 twenty years ago, but it's sitting in the corner collecting dust...with the technology involved in rodmaking today, there's plenty of inexpensive rods I'd rather be using.
I really like the rods by Berkley and Bass Pro Shops the best...only using one of my many Fenwicks at this time (probably because it's a rod I built - sentimental attachment).

The fine print on the back of the sales flyer says no internet of phone orders.
I plan on being there at 9am when they open the doors tomorrow! I can't wait! ~c~
Say guys, don't forget to bring your old working reels for the exchange & clean up on even better savings. A $5.00 zebco 33 will knock off $100.00 off of a $500.00 reel, that's the most anyway, the Corrado that's normally 120, 130 is 99.00 with a reel exchange.
