Title: NACIMIENTO
Post by: calincalif50 on June 18, 2007, 11:45:47 AM
How did you guys do?  Saw the report from Bob, sounded like the low lake took its toll on the fishing.  How much of Bee Rock can you see or is it towering above you now?

We are not fishing Naci for Gold Coast.  I think I will go to Cachuma this coming Saturday and then hit Lopez at least once before the Gold Coast tournament in July.

Don't forget July 21 is the last Anglers Choice for Cachuma.

no prefish at Naci.  Too little time and too far for now.  Will be hitting Lopez several times next month

Stan, I thought  you guys took 3rd place.  Not according to B.Dixon's post on westernbass.

Yeah well you know GC.  The fish were weighed, the numbers were tallied and the money was distributed.  Cal and I were just getting up to the area where they were doing it when  they were already handing out 3rd place money.  So we listened to the rest, everyone went on there way and I asked Bryan if I could see the results just to see where we finished.  First was 8.4 second was 7.91, we had 7.82, and the guys that took the 3rd palce money had 7.17, :o :shocking:.  So I asked Bryan what school he went to so that I could be sure to keep my kids from attending there.  He looked at the numbers, Glenn looked at the numbers and OOPS we're sorry we made a mistake.  So we got our money, and I told them to make sure the points were corrected and they said they would call Johnny Johnson to get the money back from them.  That was the drama of the tournament.  Moral of the story:  always ask to verify your standing for the tournament!

Oh yeah, and when I first asked Bryan to see the results, he said "Oh you guys came in 5th.  WOW!

Yea, that's the same thing that happened to Dean and I when we finished second and they had us down as 3rd or 4th I can't remember and then Dean asked to see the results sheet and yep same thing!!  Its unbelievable but then again it's not.

I can understand maybe a once off occurance, but this has happened once too often.  Makes you wonder how we went from 2nd last year to fourth or fifth can't remember

tough fishing, and almost the same conditions as last year during the tournament... cold and windy after dark. >:(  Same stuff worked, just really slow getting bit.  I think Bob said it is at 37% full right now???  I believe it since the majority of the lake is a beach.

Let me know how things went at Naci.

The fishing was much better than it had been.  Typical Naci tournament though, about half the field of 19 had limits the best being 9lbs, second was in the 8lb range and third was 7 something.  After that it was down hill for the weights, Cal and I had 5 fish for 5.5lbs, I don't know exactly what place that would be but it was about 6-9th place.  Even the Naci pros like Rose and Sharpe came in with very little.  We had 5 for about 4.5lbs up until about 45 min left and I finally stuck a decent fish for Naci about 2lbs.  That helped us alot otherwise we would have been like everyone else weighing 5 fish that weighed less than a pound each.  I tell ya this lake has got to come off the schedule, it doesn't have anything to do with patterning fish, it's a matter of luck, whoever gets lucky wins and the rest of the pack is within a pound or so.  That's my 2 cents.

I would have disagreed last year, or anytime the water is up since you actually have to be on fish of a better size average to win (or get a 5 lb largemouth)  ;D  This year though, it seems like sorting through 50 or more 12" fish for like 4 or 5 good ones.  We didn't even weigh 5 and caught probably 30.  Not sure how 98% of the fish can be the same age class?  I'm pretty sure there are a lot of bigger fish out hanging close to the channel where the ball of shad are.  Problem is you have to be suicidal to fish out there.

I just wish we had club fishermen fishing club tournaments instead of guys you only see for 2 or 3 events every year, and every time they show up, they take the money.  Those guys take cherry pickin' to a whole new level.

I agree they should take it off the schedule.  Even when the water is high you still don't have to be on any type of pattern to catch fish and be in contention.  If you showed up at any other lake we fish and you haven't figured out the pattern more often than not you are not even close to winning.  Stan, since you are on the board try and get them to get rid of Naci or move it to Jan like everyone else does.

MHO,
get it off the schedule intirely, and replace it with Casitas Jan - Mar, then have the open at Naci or SA, fish Cachuma more often, and have the Fish off at Clear Lake.
I heard that the current board WILL NOT be in that position next year, and the meeting in Sep/Oct we'll have to vote for those positons next year.

Yes this is all true, but trying to get the schedule changed is like pulling teeth.  "That's the way it's been for years."  Last year when I was on the board I mentioned some changes to the schedule should be made, and conviently I was not invited to the Scheduling meeting, Hmm!   These guys are diehard Naci/Lopez I don't think it will be changing a whole lot any time soon.

o.k. then hit Lopez more?  I really would like to see another Cachuma, but at least Lopez isn't so expensive to fish regularly.  That is the biggest reason I don't like San Antonio too.  It costs so much to practice, and if you don't practice and some of the locals show up, you will definitely donate your money there or Naci.  Cachuma (Jan), SM (Feb), Casitas (Mar), Lopez (Apr), and repeat... how about that for a season?   ;D

How about; Cachuma, Casitas, Casitas, Margarita, Margarita, Cachuma, Lopez, Lopez, Margarita, Cachuma.  I think that schedule would work out great for me. ~sweat

My vote would be for Casitas in Feb instead of the end of March.

How about we skip working for Feb and Mar and just fish SM and Casitas for two months straight!   ;D   Lots of BIG fish would be in the boat by the end of March for sure.  Of course someone would have to work to pay for the gas and lake entries... maybe my wife wouldn't mind???   ;D

Don't want to interupt your inner circle conversation, are you all members of a club and fishing WON Bass Central coast circuit? Haven't fished your area for few years; Naci, Antone, Lopez, Margarita, know them well however.

No interruption....we are a club, but we aren't fishing the WON circuit.  Couple of us did in 2006 but not since then
