Title: Cachuma Closure
Post by: TomG on February 08, 2008, 11:00:39 PM
I just found this on Westernbass, looks like they are trying to close Cachuma as well.  Read this letter.

Wow!  As if all the suggestions aren't enough, they close by threatening SB county with liability should their actions lead to infestation of their precious water pipes.  I wonder if all the people around Lake Erie are billing the foreign gov'ts that sent their vessels into our ports in the 80's?

I know, Stan and I were just talking about that the other day.  They said it would ruin the fisheries there and they are doing better now than ever and have cleaner water and bigger smallies.

The problem here is, Its California!

Talked to Cahuma today.  Ramp is finished and they are just doing some final work.  The lady I spoke to said maybe the lake would be open this weekend but I would have to call on Friday.  She also made it seem like it would only be open on  the weekends but I can't confirm that yet.  Will call on friday to see what's up.

"OPEN ONLY ON THE WEEKENDS"   ~rant ~xyz  That's sure to put a crimp on our weekday jaunts, and makes for a very crowded lake.  I wonder if the trout fishermen are getting the same scrutiny or the Pontoon owners.  For some reason Lopez, Naci, S.M. and S.A. are looking very good for fishing lakes.

Called again today just to talk to someone else.  The guy I talked to this time said the lake should be open this weekend and then will close next week so they can finish up with the parking lot and bait cleaning station, then it will reopen the following weekend and should stay open after that.  So that's good news, unless they decide to close it down quagga style!

Yea, that's what park employees are saying but I wonder what will happen as a result of that letter and proposal to close down at least 6 months.

Stan, take a look at the payouts for ABA and Anglers Choice.  Doesn't it seem like ABA doesn't payout nearly as well as Anglers Choice?  And know I am not trying to use that as an excuse I just want the best return for my money............. lo

Stop worrying over the pay back, just give it to me and you'll always know where it is lo lo lo

Meeting tonight:  Gold Coast in March moved from Casitas to Lopez on the 29th.  Also no more white board for the weights, you'll have to remember what it was or write it down as the scale shows
Title: Re: Cachuma Closure
Post by: TomG on February 12, 2008, 08:57:30 AM
why no white boards?  They don't want us to see the math errors over the season................ lo
Title: Re: Cachuma Closure

Believe it or not its because too many people had their hands in the pot :shocking:, some times 3 people shouting different weights.  So they decided to do away with the big white board and only use the large scale.  Teams will have to ensure one person is writing down their weights as they are posted on the scale large screen.  Mike and ?? also manufactured a release net for the dock, the bottom is open but the sides have black netting surrounding all 4 sides, if the fish is good then it just swims out the bottom, if it needs attention it should stay within the confines of the net.  We'll see.  Apparently one fish was a floater at Lopez

That could have been the one that got stuck about 50 times tryiing to fizz it!?!

Okay Tom I took a quick look at the payouts for ABA and AC, it looks like it's pretty close, I just picked one form each and Ac did pay more , but they had twice as many boats, if you double the boats you double the money and most of that goes to the winner.  But, it looks like the guys fishing ABA are not of the same caliber as AC so even though the payout is smaller for less boats, I think are chances of getting into some cash is better because the guys that have historically fished ABA don't bring in the same kind of weights as the AC guys.

Floater by the dock, hmmmmmmmmm could that have been from the team of Skou/Long......................... ~roflmao

Cal, why don't they provide weigh slips then?

Stan, when you call the lake on Friday can you ask what time they will be open and if they will be following the same entry procedures as before as far as inspecting livewells or will they be using the same Nazi type checklist as Casitas.

Probably was our fish!  That poor dude had been stuck so many times between us, the TD and of course Potter >:(, that fish probably didn't have a single organ that hadn't been stuck.  It happens!

Did you talk to that guy, Chris?

Post by: TomG on February 12, 2008, 06:50:53 PM
Yea, I spoke to Chris.  He is supposed to be at the meeting I think his wife will be attending as well.  I did not ask him about this weekend because he mentioned they just signed for a house on base and will be moving in this weekend.  So I will go by myself, probably will work out better that way anyway, as long as they don't have 100+ people trying to launch.

Just talked to Cachuma this morning.  Now they are saying that it will be 3 more weeks before the ramp is open.  Something hokey is going on here! ~b~  They are saying the delays are casued by the recent rain, but they didn't seem to know that for the last few weeks that I have been calling ~xyz.  HMMMmmm!

I will call today also and ask for a phone number on who to call to get a refund on some of my annual pass.  I told you they are delaying in hopes of getting a ruling on this quagga thing.

I saw some place on westernbass that they are having a meeting sometime in March to discuss the Cachuma issue, I am not sure if the public is invited.

I called today about 1500 and the guy who answered I believe was Don he said he wasn't sure what  was going on for me to call back tomorrow for more info.  I also asked to speak to someone about getting a refund since the launch ramp will be down for about 2 to 2 1/2months he gave me this persons name and phone number I think it's the park superintendant.  The name is Mitch and his number is 686-5076, I will call tomorrow, Stan you should do the same and if he wont' help I will ask for his supervisors name and number.

Cal, if you have an annual pass you should call the above number as well.  I think the more people calling to complain will at least let them know people are not happy about the whole situation.

Stan, Tom,
Either of you call to get a refund or extension of your annual pass.  I called this am but my phone died.  Will have to call tomorrow when my phones is recharged.  Any o

Anyone go fishing th past weekend?
Title: Re: Cachuma Closure
Post by: TomG on February 25, 2008, 02:38:41 PM
I did call again.  You have to call Cachuma and ask for Terry Briggs.  He said they would be extending passes for the amount of time the lake is closed.  You have to bring in your pass and they will issue out a new one.

I did ask about the lake he said it MAY be open this weekend and that it would probably be open only on weekends.  But then he said the maintenance was scheduled to last until Mid March now so it may be shut down until then.  I told you guys they are saying its the maintenance so they can buy time until that March 4th meeting, because they are ultimately trying to close it permanently.................. ~rant

This state is ridiculous!

If it does remain open I can bet the boat inspections will be as tough as Casitas so they can deter people from even going and with the tough inspections and 28 day quarantine it will probably work.

Unfortunately that's probably all true.  And I believe its gonna happen to Lopez, S.M., Naci, S.A. all up the chain and in just about every impoundment in Calif.  Some how the thought of leaving Calif one day isn't so bad, as I'll at least have lakes to fish with my boat.

And my boat's bottom always feels rough like sand paper.  So now what.  buy a new boat?  Not gonna happen, or get it painted again, maybe but not real soon.

freaking Cali ...I'll bet you there are several members of PETA and others llike them on water boards across the state

Yea, so far I am not worried about the lakes up north, because even with all that is going on with Casitas and Cachuma I haven't heard any rumors about Lopez, Margarita, or Naci..............so for now that's good news.

I guess for now Lopez will have to be our home lake until they decide on Cachuma.

I did go to Lopez twice last week and got Skunked both times.......... :'(  although I did stay shallow to find the prespawn bite and I did not throw any finesse lures.  I think I could have caught some dropshot fish.

Did you guys read the post on westernbass?  Looks like Casitas is closed for the year and Cachuma closure will be announced soon and will be closing as well.  Stan and Cal we need to ask for a refund as soon as they announce the closure since it will be pro-rated.

Yep read all the BS going on, not happy,  will be calling the hour they announce the closure.  Mark my words Lopez is next, then S.M, Naci, S.A.  Before years end one or all will be closed.

Stan, Take a look at Westernbass when you get a chance.  There is a discussion topic about the new inspection procedures at Cachuma if it does open.  One of the things I noticed will affect you.  It says all out of state boats and trailers will be an automatic 14 day quarantine period at the lake.  Since you are a Texas guy that would probably mean you unless you could bring them some paperwork showing that you live here.  Probably won't matter any way since I am sure they will close the lake.  It also says that boats will be subject to a hot high pressure wash........no way am I getting my boat sprayed with hot water and some disinfectant.  I wouldn't thing the gel coat would hold up too well to hot water or the finish on your boat.

Post by: Stan on March 21, 2008, 08:20:40 PM
There has got to be a way to avoid the out of state deal.  What if a military guy brings his both with him on a PCS, will he have to quarantine for 2 weeks each time he brings his boat to Cachuma.  The Hot wash is only 140 degrees which really isn't that hot.  It;s like washing your boat with the hot water at your house.

Yea, but I don't wash my boat with hot water................... lo

I guess we will know next week.  I think its the 25th that they meet again.
