Title: "Live Liner" Reels
Post by: Pferox on May 22, 2005, 07:08:40 AM
As everybody knows by now, I use spinning reels, but I miss the free spool or bait clicker technique from baitcasters for live bait fishin.
My most productive bass fishin was usually soakin shiners down at Kississimmee Lake.
I was thinkin of gettin a "live liner" style reel or two.
Does anybody have one of these types?
Are they worth the cost?
How do they work?
Or is there another technique I can use on a Plain Jane spinning reel to get the same results?
I have been pondering this for a while, and would like some of your expert opinions, cause I am stumped.
Thanks

Boy I just don't have any experience with these. I will do some checking with my gulf fishing buddies and see what they say. Is this primarily an salt water reel? You mentioned the Live Shiner fishing, so there must be some fresh water applications too. Just very unfamiliar territory here for me ~tumble

Mike, from what I understand, it works simularly to the way you use the baitclicker, free line fishin on a baitcaster.
Some use it for cat fishin, live bait fishin of all types, that kind of thing.
It allows the fish to take off with the bait and eat it with a slight resistance, then once the fish has a good chunk of the hook in his mouth, you lock up the reel, set the hook, and then bring it in.

Pferox, if you get one I want one too, that sounds like fun.  ~c~   I love playing with them, give them some slack them WHAM bring them in. Have you checked Bait Masters? Isnt that something the guys use to catch big fish, like Ive seen on the fishing shows? the line runs and the rod squeals then they flip something and the reel stops, then they reel them in. Or am I dreaming?  Anyway, I want one too.

Yea babe, that is what I am talkin about but not with a conventional reel, they make em now for spinning reels like you use now, just an added feature.
Baitmasters don't have em, they are too new to the market for them to carry.
