Title: 2006 Shootout
Post by: Wildcat26 on July 01, 2005, 08:56:09 AM
I got some information about Lake Fausse Pointe to share. Fausse Point is on the west side of the Atchafalaya Basin near St Martinville and New Iberia.
Last couple of miles are gravel road but 95% of the trip for everyone would be on interstate highways. Cabins are built on the water with docks. Park has over 4,000 acres of water.

What was the other site mentioned? I would like to gather some info on it.

I check on Fausse Pointe yesterday. The Lake is seperate from the basin but the basin is not far away. So if the lake was not the place we wanted to fish, the launch into the basin is not far. The only thing is the cabins book very fast. I checked yesterday for the months of February and March and there are only a few cabins available on a couple of weekends. There are 18 cabins according to the website but the lady at the reservation center said there are 16. So basically we need to make a decision on this soon. The other two places we had in mind was the Calcasieu River and Toledo Bend.

I don't how I just knew Mike Noble would love the idea of Toledo Bend. :roll2: Sorry Mike, we are just looking at the places that have cabins close by and enough of them that it's not going to be a worry. By Wednesday night we will have pick one of these three places.

Ummmm....before you select Toledo Bend...what about the Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic Ocean, or Pacific Ocean....about as much bass catching there as The Bend.  lo

What about the east side of the state....Concordia, St. John, Bruin.

Heck, for Feb and March, you can check out Lake Toho, or Kississimmee. Places like Camp Mac, Camp Lester, can't remember the other ones around. It would like bein in a almost summer oasis.  ;D
And then I can come and officiate, another way of sayin watchin how the pros do it.  ::)

I have a question for the Lockjaw guys...Does calcasieu open into the basin?....Dave

I have been looking at the maps and was wondering??....Dave

Dave, the Calcasieu River goes all the way down to the Gulf but it does not touch the Basin. We put the off limits on the Calcasieu at the Salt Water Barrier. But believe me even with south of the barrier being off limits there is no way you could run out of area to fish. There is tournament coming up in August, which Mike Cork is surpose to come down and fish with me, that has over 600 anglers that fish it, and even with those numbers there is plenty of water to fish.

Rattle, I was looking at the map and noticed all the area that the river and river basin area covered. I agree, its very large, and has so many chutes, and bayou's, that there should be enough area for a large number of anglers. You know last year we only had 3 or 4 teams fish the area and from the reports the cabins were nice. Based on this, I don't see why you guys shouldn't schedule the '06 Shootout for the calcasieu again. It is your decision ultimately, but if it is convient, easily accessible, plenty of water, and has the room for the amount of people wanting to attend, why not.........My two cents....Dave

Dave, it's obviously one of the top choices for us but the only thing that concerns me is the flooding at that time of the year. If we have some heavy rainfalls around the time of the tournament, it's going to be tough and I mean tough.

I gotcha Brother, I was just adding my two cents. If there is anyway in which I can help you all, shoot me an e-mail or IM. WE could upset Mike N and nominate Toledo Bend, He's not on tonight and won't know till tommrow  :roll2: ....Dave

Chris...understand if Toledo Bend is picked....it will be a VERY long boat ride to any water you are familiar with.

I'll take every cent I have and start hiring trucks.

I spent most of my youth in the San Miguel arm of the lake which is north in Zwolle of course. However, in the past six years the South end is where Ive spent most of my time. Doesnt really matter though. We could fish in a big ditch and beat Lockjaw. lo lo

Chris I see you still haven't woken from that fantasy land you are in. Mike let me know where you are dumbing that sand, it's liable to make a good hump where I can go and catch a few nice fish.  lo

We all have our favorite lakes and lakes we like to make fun of, but can anyone seriously imigine a better venue for a great tournament and get together than the most famous and perhaps the best fishing lake in the country.

The one thing that really draws my attention to Toledo is the enormous amount of places to stay. The one draw back is weather. That lake gets nasty quick, fast, and in a hurry, but I do believe if everyone watches the weather and knows the limitations of their boat it shouldn't be a problem. We have quite a few things to consider for the lake selection but I can assure you wherever it is we are going to have a good time.

Papa...I know you don't drink, but you must have tipped the bottle heavy with that post.  Best in the country?  Please, maybe 20 or 30 years ago but not even close these days.

Rattle, you will know where the sand is...there won't be water.  ~tumble

I could come as an "on-bank" observer for the tournament.  :'(

We (Lockjaw) the hosts for the 2006 shootout decided to let people trailer at the 2006 shootout.  South Toledo Bend Park will be the tournament site.  At blastoff time teams that wish to trailer to other Toledo launchs may do so.  But they can not leave the south park until blast off time.  Those teams trailering must be back at the weight site by the cut off time.

Also, if you plan to attend and have not contacted us yet for a spot in a cabin please let us know as soon as possible.  The cabins are filling up fast for March.

We will make amendments to the 2006 rules and have them posted as soon as possible. The rules will be almost the same as 2005 with the exception of a few things, like times and trailering. Check the home page often for updates.
