Title: Keystone Lake Bass Fishing Reports
Post by: blake711 on August 01, 2005, 12:51:38 PM
Well saturday I went out on the north end of keystone just south of cleveland put in at Fyodie Creek.   What a waste of time. I just moved to cleveland and thought I should check this place out.  It is trecherous, hard to find the channel and the silt has made it very shallow.  Most areas about 4 feet but all the sudden its 1 foot.  We went north into where the Arkansas river comes in on the north side of cleveland.  The water is terrible.. Looks like chocolate milk.   We tryed fishing the couple places we actually found structure to no avail.

We did see lots of folks fishing for catfish with about 10 poles per boat.. I would guess if thats your style you could try it out.. But be careful as its a mine field for boats.  As for bass fishing on keystone don't go north of Peir 51 or Salt Creek is my take.

went below the dam on saturday with my 2 oldest boys, and they weren't generating. not much water there. we stayed for about an hour and a half without a nibble. only a few guys there were catching small crappie on pink/white tiny tubes. bad day overall.

Snapper.....what is wrong at Keystone....do you think the poor bite might be contributed to low water level.......

I was talking to a friend yesterday and he says the lake is almost back to pool. maybe the fish will turn back on. they have been generating below the dam lately so I'll have to see what's biting if I get a chance. I plan on going back to sahoma again tomorrow, so I'll give a fishing report then.

I fished Keystone Friday night.Lake level is 4 feet above normal.Fished in South Salt Creek area with no luck. The shad population at Keystone was incredible, they were everywhere breaking the surface and almost jumping in the boat.Maybe better luck next time.

Thanks for the report Barney....did you try any topwater lures....while the shad was breaking the surface....thats probably why the fish were not hitting ....with all of those shad ......I have seen days like that plenty of bait fish no bass......

I fished a situation like that on Lake of the Ozarks...tried topwater first with no positive results, then went the other way, put on a 3.5" salt n pepper tube with a 1/2 oz. insert jig in it...threw it out into the middle of where the shad were hoppin' outta the water, and jiggled my line until I made it underneath the school of shad. Every time I got underneath the school, I got bit. Just an idea for the next time.
