So its supposed to be in the 50's Tuesday and Wednesday, with a high of 52 on wed. What are the chances of the being some good ice thawing on wed. for some fishing?
probably pretty good, I haven't driven by any of the local lakes but the ice has totally been off of them this year for a day or two. I haven't been out because I haven't bought a license for this year yet.
The wind, coupled with the average 30-40 high temps that we have been having has had a good effect on melting the ice faster.
Nice, thats what I was hoping to hear. I bought my permit about 2 wks ago. I'll probably head out to Walnut Wed. dock fish an see how its goes.
Lots of fish in that VFW pond!! I'm a life member there although I haven't fished the pond in awhile!!!
Life Member implies you have your own bar stool.
Lol Bass yea yrly. dues buy ya a perm. bar stool. So you have been down there Skip. I remember when they bought it from Lenny the original owner. Working down there with my dad to clean it up repair it and catch all the craws. out of the pond. Work all day sleep on the bar or hammock at night lol. But anyways, thats where I usually go if I dont have alot of time an just wanna get a couple hrs. in.
Bass what do ya think Walnuts will be like Wed. ???
cold and chunky...
Went by Walnut tonight alot of open water except near the banks.
I fished the offutt base lake today with a buddy of mine. Lake was probably 75% open. Fished a jig, jerk bait, and a rattle trap with no success. While bank fishing I had a few carp come right up to where I was standing to say hi.
Most interesting thing probably was seeing the bald eagles that live out there dive into the lake for shad. There were many dead ones on the shore.
Many dead zebra mussels too! ~c~ ~c~
Was at Walnut Wed. throwin a texas an wacky rigged 4" senko, "woops"y shad #4 crankbait, char./white an gold spec. 3/8 booyah buzz, 3/8 kvd char./white spinner, and toad colored rapala #5 skeeter pop.
Water was clear bout 2 to 3' visability. Was windy.
Didnt do anything but good news it in 5 hrs only had 2 major nest a 4 really minor. So overall a good day.
I went after some bass at an NRD lake north of Fairbury Wednesday afternoon. Water was completely open. 39 to 40 degrees on main lake. Got up to 43 up in the north end around a spring. Found baitfish holding in 8 to 10 feet of water. They were holding around cover, but definitely not within it.
Thru everything at them. No takers. It was great to get out. Plus I found that spring which should pay off for years to come. ~shhh
