Title: Cold and windy!
Post by: Buzbait88 on April 11, 2009, 08:19:41 AM
Well I got out again yesterday.  Some of my buddies challenged me to a little tournament so they wanted to hit the water at 8am  :shocking: not backing down from a challenge I accepted and hit the water at 8am with the temps barely above freezing.  we hit my normal spot and only got 1 fish in the cold, so I left to try some new water and let old faithful recover a little bit.  I went to a spot I had never fished before and the fish were there.  I was in white caps, but we caught 4 nice keepers right away and through back a bunch of small ones and lost a couple big ones.  All in all I think we hooked into or caught probably 10 or so fish in this spot and then went back to old faithful and my partner caught another keeper.  Everyone else's boat broke so needless to say we won the little tournament.   lo

No monsters today, but a solid 6 fish limit of 2lbrs and I did some KARU promoting on the water as well today.

yeah today was beautiful.  WIth no wind I'm pretty sure I could have caught alot more fish then what I did, but I opted to spend the day wiring a shed and scouting for turkeys at night instead.  Oh well.  The season has just begun.

I'm pretty confident I could have caught a bunch of fish, but I've been catching so many lately that i'm kind of wore out already.  lo so turkey scouting sounded good to me.  I even found a couple new spots on Fri that were producing some fish.  Now that I've found them they are fairly easy to catch.  For me its just a matter of finding fish and then its game over.  ;D

I'm kidding of course.  I've been catching 3 or 4 a day until Fri when I got another person in the boat and we hammered them then.  I've only caught 3-4 fish that went over 3lbs.  Most are between 14" and 16", but the way it sounds a limit of 14" fish could win alot of tournaments right now.  Things will be better by the 26th.  I'm sure you'll get on them.

We caught 6 keepers and I lost 2 good ones at the side of the boat.  We also caught 3 or 4 that were about 13.5".  Wind was blowing so hard I could barely hold the boat.  I think on a calm day I could have caught more, but the spot I have been catching them I only managed 2, but they were bigger fish.  I ran to some new water and it worked out.  Clear water and about 50-54* temps.

I fished a shallow pond yesterday afternoon.  Water temps were almost 60* and the fish were smashing anything I used.  I fished for an hour and I landed 10 8)  I made some guys that were there fishing mad.  They  said they had been there for 4 hours and had not got one.

Weather looks good for W-T-F this week.  But raining all weekend.  Fishing should really be getting goood by Friday.  the 26th will be here soon.  I hope it stays above 55 8) day time highs till then.

I should be able to get to the river on Wednesday this week, then again two times next week before the 26th.

Adam good luck this weekend

I think the temps are still going to be in the upper 50s even with the rain this weekend.  The river temps should be really close to the 60* mark.

I understand most of this about not posting pics, but seriously Adam they are going to follow you anyway.  lo  I mean its kind of obvious, you guys pretty much place well in every tournament.  People are going to follow you, because you catch fish and they have no life and can't catch fish themselves.  THey spend countless thousand of dollars on boats and gear and binoculars, but still can't find or catch fish.

I about had a darn heart attack when I looked at the weather this morning :shocking:  It is supposed to be just about perfect all next week that I can see.

I am heading to the south end of the pool tomorrow I think.  It might be kind of run and gun to check out spots though lo

I might have to spend today getting my brothers boat ready.  His starting battery is dead and will not take a charge.  I am going to see if we jump it and run it on the hose if it will run enough to get a small charge.  If not he will just have to buy a new one ~b~  He is kind of a cheep  :ass

Sounds like a bad idea to me!  I understand that batteries are expensive, but if you ever plan on using the boat then you might want to get a new one.  A small charge can go dead in a short amount of time and with the starting battery running all of your electronics and more importantly your MOTOR!  I'd suggest a new battery so you don't get stranded....I think you can get walmart ones for around 30$ or so.

We are just trying to get a small charge so the battery charger will work.  With a dead battery his chargers trips out and says the battery is no good.  So we have to give it something to read.

He left the power switch turned on all winter and drained the battery ~b~

lo  I C what you are doing now.  Sounds like he needs an onboard charger so he can leave the charger on all the time.  Sure helps alot, but they are pretty expensive.  Hopefully you get a charge on them.  Good luck tomorrow.  I'll be turkey hunting in the morning then I think I will run down to the south end as well.

I always take pics away from the area as well.  Sometimes I'll throw them in the livewell and take pics on the boat ramp or out in the middle of the lake.  Otherwise I take them to Adams spots and take the pics there so that millions of people flock to his areas.   lo J/K Adam if I knew all the places you fished I'd just go fish them myself.  lo

I'm thinking about going to his spot tomorrow.  I went to the same spot I've been catching them and no luck.  It looks like the water has dropped a bit since the last time and the water temp was barely 50 in most spots.  Later in the afternoon might have been better or tomorrow, but spring sounds so better right now.

The water is forecast to drop about 3 feet this week so they'll be pulling off shore  ;)

Welp turns out your right.   lo   Didn't catch a thing in spring lake.  Not much water in there, but I'm sure one of the 50 boats in spring lake caught something  :surrender:  I did find some water in the 60's and that as at 1.  By the end of the week it should be on fire.  To bad the water is dropping.

Wow the water came down alot were I was today ~rant  I started out strong with a 4 pounder and a 2.75 in the first hour and a half.  Then I fished a different area and by the time I came back the water had come down 4" or so.  I did not fish it again, but my other spot looked just as good.

The highlight of the day was the two huge snappers I found that were doing the dew.  Both of them were over 30 pounds.  I have not seen two like that on the river.  They were in a bout 6 inches of water.

With the water comming down that much I am going to have to fish different then I have been.  No more fish that are right now in 1.5 foot of water or less.

Were you south of spring?  You go to spring at all?  I guess we can see how eventfull your day was when 2 snappers doing it is the highlight of the day.   lo  but seriously thats some big snappers  :shocking:.  All my fish are in shallow water now to.  I caught a bunch on the bank in 2ft of water last week and now its only about 1-1.5ft and I didn't get a bite.

I was south of spring lake but not by much ~shhh  The water was cold, when I left at 2:30 the water temps were 52.  My first two fish came out of 44* water.

Hey Karl I need to send you a picture of a skirt and see if you have anything like it.  Or if you can get anything like it.  I am down to my last one and it is getting really bad.  I will PM you a picture when I get time.
