I went fish at 2 ponds on Wednesday last week, but I never got around to posting until now as I've been really busy doing the family stuff ;D
I got to the first pond at day break and fished several baits with no bites at all. Then suddenly bass started busting baitfish all over the pond at the same time.....it was like the dinner bell had rang and the bass started feeding. There were small baitfish flee for their lives, very cool to watch. I tried every topwater I had to try and immitate the bait fish, but still couldn't get a bite.
I had some small flukes in my car that were similar to the baitfish I had seen, so I rigged up a Donkey Rig (double fluke rig) on my 6lb fluro/spinning rod and threw it out there. I was fishing it like a jerkbait - twitch, twitch, pause - and the bass just went crazy for it. They would go for the front fluke mostly, but sometimes they would miss it and then go directly for the second one.
Enough of me....here's some pics ;PHO)

Nice looking Bass
Looks like you had a great day, congrats on figuring out what they wanted! I am going to have to try that rig one of these days.
Dug
Nice, I know you were hoping they would give you a double! Looks like you had your hands full with the group of them that you caught though. I have never fished the "donkey" rig, I have always thought about it, but never broke it out. Like doug, I am gonna have to give it a try.

I have heard of a few folks hooking into 2 bass at once with this rig, and I'll admit it would of been fun ~gf but with only 6lb line it may not of been practical lo
BK thats pretty cool. I have never seen a Donkey rig maybe you could show me how its done. Nice looking bass congrats. ~c~
Nice Bass Steve ~c~ Its always cool looking when the water starts to boil 8)
Great catches Steve ~c~
Man, you had a very nice day. I'll have to give the "donkey" rig a try. Any pointers? :help: :)

Here's a quick drawing I made of the rig.

And here's a link to the thread where I got the idea from....
"Double Fluke Rig in the tips forum" (http://www.ultimatebass.com/bass-fishing-forum/index.php?topic=39040.0#lastPost)
Thanks!
BK thanks for that drawing. I will have to try the Donkey sometime next week.
In the BPS Video Library, KVD does a pretty cool video of this rig. He throws it on a baitcaster and jerks those flukes like he's havin a fit. Looked like he was having a blast.
Twitch
If you jerk this rig fast the front fluke jumps out of the water and then dives back down and then jumps out again, just the same as a bait fish being chased by a bass :-* :-*
All right BK ~c~ ~c~ nice looking Bass and looks like you ahd a blast too ;D can't wiat till eye can see them Bass busting the bait fish ;D
Also try using a weighted head on your bottom fluke ( the one tied to the main line, not on the swivel that can slide up the line) This can be killer and I nailed smallies on it last year. There was another thread that was posted in I think i posted some pics
