What is the best way to get to Clear Lake?
:-* White Toyota Tundra with a dent in the tailgate!
That's not funny at all ^-^ ~xyz ~rant As a good partner you should have seen that coming and told me...
Did you back the trailer up with the tailgate down?????????????????????????
I had the tail gate down, and made a turn. It smashed into the wench.
OUCH ~xyz ~xyz
Yeah, I learned that lesson from watching someone else do it ~b~ :shocking:.
So what is the best way to get to Clear Lake?
Mapquest...................................................
I just use my GPS, I could give you detailed directions to the place we're staying if you can get me the address.
I'll get you the numbers as soon as I talk to Mike. But I'm planning to go up this weekend and just get to know the lake. We need to become 1 ~cf ;D Might stay Sat, Sun and come back Monday. I'm going to get the boat inspected so I don't have to deal with it that tourney week. Never know....Tom said it was like 4 hours from here.

what was Tom talking about when he said it was 4 hours away?
I think he was just thinking that it took about 4 hours. He asked me that yesterday and I told him no it took us about 7.5 hours to get there last time.
That means if I leave at midnight I should find a place to inspect the boat and still fish all day.
You crazy!
Chris,
Sorry about the time estimation. It was back in March that we went I just couldn't remember.
When are you leaving??
As slow as he drives he better leave now :traffic:
Don't give me that crap. I think we saw how slow you drive with your boat now!!!!!
Chris,
Are you leaving this Friday?
That's Classic Mike! lo ~roflmao ~roflmao
I'm thinking about it
Mike,
Are we 100% confirmed for the house? We just need to know so that Stan can cancel our other reservations. Also how much is the cleaning fee?
When are you heading up?
Tom,
The rental house has been confirmed and I'm waiting on a response from the owner on the $100 cleaning fee. His fiance thinks he would be willing to add it for no additional charge, she'll get an answer for us when he gets back home next week. From what I've read on these forums, if he does charge, it looks like Stan and Chris are willing to pay for it anyway. I don't know about you but I keep everything except my garage pretty clean anyway. :suck_kr:
BTW - You guys might have already seen'em but heres a link to additional pics of the house http://www.vrbo.com/global/siteFrame.aspx?l=200956&k=1
I'm leaving at midnight. After I get some
Mike,
Stan and I were saying the same thing. We will be fishing all week anyway and it's not like we will get it that dirty.
take 101 north to 20 east right on 29 left soda bay road right on POINT LAKEVIEW RD and left on HAWAINA way and a left on NORTHSLOPE DR. highway 29 coming from calistoga is a nasty road with 15mph curves up a steep hill. dont speed north of the bay area you will get caught just got one $257... good luck
Well, how was the trip to Clear Lake?
It was hot, both days it went up to 99,
There was an awesome top water frog bite, nothing else worked it had to be frogs, Once the sun was out then it was kinda tough. I stumbled onto a swim jig bite and started to catch them like that. But didn't figure that out until the 2nd day.Biggest was 5.10lbs.
1st day didn't launch until late morningbut a total of 16lbs
2nd day full effect 21.12lbs total.
The lake was full of algae, and it stunk real bad. Some of the lake was so thick you couldn't even punch it with a 1oz weight. Going across the lake it looked like I was in the Mississippi river, water was so green/brown. I will spend the next week getting all that stuff off the truck and trailer. All the fishing lines are ruined(all brown stained)
Lake was down about 15 to 20 ft. The deepest I ran across was 31ft.
Sounds like you had a good time.
i SAW THAT THE FORECAST FOR THE OVERNIGHTS WERE GOING TO BE IN THE LOW TO MID 40S,
I did have a good time, but I know the bite will be 100% different when we go up in Nov. I'm glad it will be a little cooler too. I believe I got a little too much sun this weekend.
By the way I went 2 different ways there and coming back.
The I-5 is a little longer but less hills and no toll road.
101 is big hills and sharp turns, and a toll that cost me $8.50. :shocking:
Yeah I've been both ways, your right I-5 is an easier route but can you say BORING! ::)
to me it's all boring because you are driving and focusing on the road!
Mike and Chris what are your thoughts about cooking at the rental house? Are we cooking for all 4 or is each team just worrying about themselves since we may be fishing until different times of the day?
I call dibs for cooking for Monday and Tuesday night that is if you guys like cajun cooking.
Chris,
You said the I-5 was a little longer how much longer time wise and how long did it take you to get there and back?
What Road?!? There's a road?!? ~beer~ ~beer~ ~beer~ PoPo
I would say about 45min longer, but I had to stop several times because I ended up losing my lights on the trailer.
EZ-loader barely put enough wire in the frame just to make it to the lights. I'll spend the next day or so re-wiring the trailer.
On the food I'm not sure, I think everyone will be fishing late nights until the day before tournament.
so what was the total drive times??
101- was around 8 hours
5-was 9 hours
It kinda makes me re-think when we should leave on Sunday
If it takes that long I am thinking we should leave around 0600 or 0700, what do you say Stan? I just want to get there a couple hours before dark get the boat inspection and sticker and then get unpacked and setup before it gets late.
Not sure where you guys are planning to get your boat done at but, the guy who did mine closed at 1200 on Sunday. There is a list of people on the Clear lake web site.
I have to ask Mike how the process for getting house keys. Might have to leave pretty early.
If nothing else we will just have to go into Lakeport first thing Monday morning to get the sticker.
Chris,
I am assuming Mike is traveling up with you on Sunday?
The house has a coded lock-box with the house key, he will give me the code once we get closer to the rental dates and I'll pass it along to you guys. The owner agreed to waive the cleaning fee as long as we don't leave the house a mess, start the dishwasher and the first load of laundry (linens). As far as food goes, I say lets fire up the grill and throw whatever we want on, we can come up with easy side dishes when we get there. Breakfast and lunch, for me anyway, are pretty simple, cereal and sandwiches.
Mike,
The reason I wanted to know if each team was worrying about their own food was that I plan on bringing food prepared ahead of time for Monday and Tuesday which is why I need to know if I am putting in containers for 2 or 4. I plan on purchasing the meat here since it will be cheaper. I know we are fishing at different times and coming in at different times that's why I wasn't sure how you guys wanted to do this.
Are you heading up with Chris on the Sunday?
I called Tackle It today and the guy told me to call back on Wednesday to speak to Ed and he will set up an appointment for us to get an inspection whenever we show up into town. I'll let you know what the deal is after a speak with him.
My sticker is on and ready to go. Not sure how far LakePort is, but it cant be that much more, I was told it only takes 45 to 60 mins to go around the whole lake.
On the food, I don't eat big meals I grab what I can and go.
Tom I would say just pack for 2 and Mike and I will bring stuff for us.
Sounds good, I will just pack for 2. Stan and I will probably eat half our meals on the go as well because I don't plan on cooking every night there.
Ok, have you guys settled on a time to leave?
Also have you paid for the touney yet?
I was thinking leave around 0900, get there at about 1600. Get inspection and get ready for Monday.
I was honestly thinking about leaving around 5 or 6. Just so we dont have to deal with big traffic all the way. Which way do you guys want to go?
Chris,
How much boat gas did you use fishing two days up there?
If we leave at 0500-0600 I'm gonna want to go fishing that afternoon. ;D Traffic shouldn't be an issue on Sunday.
Are we having a little Lopez tournament anytime soon? I know some of us have Clear Lake to concentrate on and Dean has the Stren tournament so wasn't sure if its something you guys had an interest in. No big deal if people aren't interested I just wanted to know and if anyone had a date in mind.
Chris did you cross the golden gate on your way up?
I don't want to fish Sunday afternoon but I do want to get there and get the boat inspected and settled into the house by dark.
Mike,
can you ask the owner the distance from the nearest outside faucet to where the boats will be parked. Just want to know what length hose to bring. If the lake is still full of algae I want to spray that gunk off my boat at the end of each day.
Me too, I would like to motor around and throw a few lines.
No I didn't, I did cross some big bridge but it wasn't the Golden Gate. It was on the road that cost $8.50
There was a couple of pull through car washes that I passed and I stopped in paid 1.50 to spray all the junk off. I noticed I left a lot of junk on the ground from the bunks on the trailer.
Yea but if we launch out of the private ramp by the house we are staying I don't want to have to drive all the way into lakeport just to spray off the boat. I will bring a hose.
So how much boat gas did you use in 2 days?
I used 3/4 of a tank, but I was flying around because the boat was just fixed, wanted to test out. I would imagine you might use a full tank for pre-fish days and then fill up for Tourney.
Don't worry about has tom I will pay my share
Tom talked to ed at tackle it today. He gave me his cell and said he would do the inspection whenever we call on Sunday.
Do you guys want to do a small tourney at Lopez

I know we are splitting all gas and oil I just wanted to get an idea. Besides our two secret spots aren't that far apart anyway and hopefully we shouldn't have to look any place else for the fish.
Your secret spot is dried up and about 3 feet above your boat.
No if our secret spots were dried up there would be no lake.......... ;D
O that secret spot, you can fight over that secret spot with the other 45 boats that think it is a secret too. ~roflmao ~roflmao ~roflmao
Mike and I talked it over and we think were going to leave early in the morning. If you guys still leave at 9 or so give us a call and we'll let you know how to get in the house.
By the way this week Clear Lake is suppose to get rain ~rain ~rain
Tom how does 0815 sound. I will have all my stuff at your house the day prior.
Sounds good to me. Took the boat out today just to make sure I had no issues. Went to Lopez, got off the lake at 1100. Put a hurt on them for a little while............... ;D the size wasn't as good as the past two trips but decent.
Okay tom its 370 miles on the route we talked about so depending on how fast you want to drive it comes out to 6.7 hours going 55 and 6.2 hours going 60. And we avoid the worst roads.
that sounds good to me. I won't be going over 60. That last ticket was way to painful.
Chris,
When you went up to clear lake how much oil did you end up using in one day approx?
I have a little over half in my tank but I won't be able to get oil until Tuesday from the yamaha place in Lakeport, they are closed on Monday.
I didn't use more than a 1/2 tank
Man you guys sure are quiet ~shhh considering we're heading up to Clear Lake in just a few days! Is everyone making Top Secret Plans and tying on Top Secret baits? I haven't even started to pack yet!
When are you bringing your stuff over to the house?
Saturday at about 1530 is that okay.
Yeah that's ok. We leave for Church at about 1700.
I've been getting my butt kicked at work, and when I go home I hit the sheets. Believe me I cant wait for next week.
Better bring your rain gear, looks like it will be raining on both tournament days ~rain. I hope we get some more down here too! Chris have you guys decided when you'll be leaving on Sunday, and does Mike know how to get the key?
Yes Mike knows how to get into the house! There is a lock box located on the left side of the front door with the key inside, I will PM you the code. As far as secrets go, you guys know me and Chris don't hold anything back. Our only secret is we don't catch fish on tourney days!!!!
Well prefish was awesome we had 19.5 the first day and 25 on the second day. We didn't really stick to many fish for the next day because we didn't want to wear them out and then we didn't even fish the day before the tournament. Day 1 we had 5 for 15.7 which put us in 71st. Day 2 we had 5 for 16.85 and moved up to 34th 9 places and 2 pounds out of the money. Not bad for some clear lake rookies.
Mike,
Just wanted to say thanks for getting the house and setting everything up! Even though we didn't get to use everything it had to offer it was centrally located and in a safe area, so thanks again!
Thanks Mike! ~c~
Congratulations Tom and Stan, not a bad finish for that many boats. Chris, how did you and Mike fare?
Went to Cachuma and promptly lost a rod reel, powell 735 frog rod
thanks to a &^$^ boat driver coming way to close to me in a cove. boat was rocking so bad I lost my balance and in trying to stay in the boat i accidentally snagged the rod with my shoes and over it went. Spent the rest of the day and yesterday trying to drag a 2 oz sinker with a big treble on it. No luck in finding it, too many gulley's under the water. could have been standing straight up.
anyhow will have to get another one before froggin season next yr.
Will take me that long to save
Thanks Cal, yea it was a good time all around and we are happy with the finish even though we didn't crack the top-25 this time.
That sucks about your rod. When I lost mine at Margarita and fell in trying to catch it as it sank I never did end up finding that thing. It was a G-loomis spinning rod............... ~xyz
I might drive down there this week just to get a tag for the lake my boat seems to be dry now.
The main ramp is closed, so you have ot use the old dirt road further on
Cal if you call me and let me know where you lost it I will try and find it with my aqua view
what are you doing this week? I completely forgot you had the cam. i think its my next purchase
