Do most of you splice to your (2 ft.)power cable on gps unit and go to the battery or hook in to the closest power? MAYBE 3 ft! and why not give you 20 ft?

That's what i did except i connected them to the fuse block under the console. A lot easier and didn't have to run all those wires to the back plus less connections on the battery. If you have empty spaces on your fuse block i would go that route.

Should be able to find a hot wire under the console.  Don't forget to install the fuse.

The wires are short on purpose. It makes you tap into a 12vdc powere source that is close to the unit. The longer the wire run, the more voltage that will be dropped. It also reduces the chance of picking up any spurious noise that can affect the performance of the unit. Most new electronics will shut off at about 10.5vdc.
