I have a hds-5 and it doesn't have a sd card slot and I'm wanting to know how I can update it. I do have a hds5x that I have updated. If anyone could help tahr would be great. Thanks aj

Have you tried downloading the update directly to an SD card?
The HDS 5x has no slot for a SD card since it is a sonar only unit . It can be updated by etherneting it to your HD5 unit . Insert a update chip in the HD5 unit then turn on both units . It will update your HD5X.
I'm confused bassin, why would the technical specs say this if it doesn't have a memory slot?

I've never used the 5x so I was going on this info alone.
I am a little confused as to what you want to do . If you want to upgrade the HDS5 it has the door to accept the SD card . The HDS5x does not have the door.

The "x" does not have a memory slot BassBuff. Not sure why they would publish that info?
Purpleheart, as far as I knew you couldn't update a 5x but it sounds like if you link them then it will update.
ethernet the two together put the update chip in the HDS5 turn both units on and it will download onto the HDS5X . Just one ethernet cable from one unit to the other . You can buy one wherever they sell the unit .

When you are ready to download the up dates to HDS5X go to the Lowrance website and follow the instructions . It's not difficult but it takes a little more than I thought. Just a few more buttons to push.
