Can anybody tell me how to wire my trolling motor, say through a footswitch like a bigfoot, so it would have a constant on ? Seems like it could be done but I can't quite figure out how.
What kind of motor do you have? Guess they are all about the same. You'll have to disconnect the wires from the momentary switch in the pedal ( assuming it's foot control ) and route them to a switch you mount in the floor, then back to the motor via the foot control. A hand control would be easier I think. Meaning you could just interupt power to the motor, between it and the battery. With the hand control the speed of the motor is set at the head so you can set it and then use the foot button to supply power or kill power.

It is a Mototguide 56 lb., 12/24 volt, foot control, about a 97 model I think.
Mike, I think that would work but then I would only have constant on. Is that right ? I want to be able to use constant on and momentary. Maybe a three way switch ?
In that case it's going to be a matter of finding the power wire to the momentary and then splicing it to your momentary and a constant on. I would have to draw this out in my head a couple times.
I'm suprised your foot pedal doesn't have a constant on switch on the side of it? If you could find some schematics of ones that do it would help.
Check out www.trollingmotorparts.com and see if they have any drawings or conversion kits or a contact number to get use some more advise

You could wire the external foot switch in parallel with the momentary on switch. This will allow you to turn it on and keep going without using the momentary switch on the foot pedal. With the external switch "off" the momentary switch would work as normal.
Sorry, I missed this yeaterday. Think I'll look for that schematic too because most foot pedals have that switch. Yours might not though.
Couldn't find anuthing conclusive. Does yours have a toggle switch for variable and high bypass?

No it doesn't. It is a 56lb. Brute, 97 year model, 12-24 volt, 5 speed. It has a toggle switch for 12-24, a dial for the speed and the momentary on switch.
I left a message at trollingmotorparts.com, they have a switch that looks a lot like a bigfoot. The message said "Can I use the constant on switch FCS-2 to convert my Brute 56 to constant on and still have use of the momentary ?" This is the answer I got " There are two switches, on/off/micro part #MAP1047-1495 and constant/momentary/high bypass part # HMFPI 305T. I think this means I will need both switches and wire them in series. Does that sound right ?
I have the same TM. You do know that you'll have to keep your foot on the TM all the time it is on, don't you? It will spin around as soon as you lift your foot.
