If you have ever passed a boating safety course....your name belongs here.
The people listed in this thread are the cream of the crop. They are the ones that you will not have to worry about while out on the water.

I am one of 4 Qualified Airboat operators in Polk Coundy Mosquito control.
I took safety in courses in three states; California, North Dakota, and Louisiana. I think I finally got it right.
Because of my military endeavours, I have taken the California inland waters course threw Department of Defense, and I have taken the Navy's Coastal waters course thew the Navy (guess that would make sense) I must say for a bass boat jockey, the coastal waters course was pretty tough, had to take it if I wanted to rent boats on a small island in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Hey after a few months surrounded by water you will do anything to get out on it, it was a great course and taught this old dog a couple new tricks ~c~ ~c~
I took a safety course in R.I.
Took the safety course up here for Valdez. Rented a nice boat from MWR and you have to go through it, not too mention, if you get too close to the pipeline terminal, you could end up terminal :shocking:
Ok spetro eye did it :shocking: just took the test for Illinois and passed. ~c~ ~c~ Eye got 67 of the 75 questions right for a 89% ~sweat ~sweat Not bad for a shore fisherman :roll2: :roll2: so you can add my name to the list of HONOR ;D
I have my Boating and Safety Education certificate from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission. Great on-line course loaded with information and approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators.
Had to take mone in 92...1992, not 1892. Couldn't rent a boat from MWR without it. Still have my blue card

Passed mine in CT in March 2004.
My dad and I took a USCG boating safety course in Arkansas some years ago before it was even a requirement for certain ages. My buddies always wonder how I learned to tie all them knots :) And we didn't even have a boat ~c~...but that's my dad who was always looking to the future ;D
I took the PA Boating Safety Course, with a real instructor and everything (back in the days before internet courses were rampid) in August of 1995. I was 13 then, but still carry the laminated certificate in my wallet. Hey, you never know when you might jump on a PWC, and the dertificates are required for them here. ~c~
Took boaters safety Course growing up in Wisconsin on the Mississippi (my best friend's father owned a marina and insisted we take it), took another one in San Diego when I joined the Navy, took a Rules of the road for the high seas course, and completed my Navy Enlisted Surface Warfare designation which also includes ship handling and rules.

I took the USCG course a few years ago. I drive the 13 1/2' X 40' tour boat for the company tours on weekends. We carry anywhere from 20-50 people on it, so they made some of us get certified.
Last saturday me and my oldest boy 14 spent the day taking the safe boaters coarse and both passed. I learned some new things and it was good for him as he needs it to be safe and run the boat. It was $5 bucks a pcs and if he or I retain anything that helps us one day on the water or someone else it was well worth it.
I will get to take the class 3 more times as i still have the 10yr old, 7yr,old boy's and the 5yr old girl that will need it.
I took the course, and got my license( I need it because I'm under 18)

Late joining this thread....been away for awhile.
Completed mine years ago, Oregon requires the "Boat Oregon" course and test, there is also a card that you MUST carry, cost was $10.00 when I got mine. Now I show it every time a Law Enforcement agent does a boat check, regardless of the state I make them look it over...figure if I show it to the right people they might get the requirement started in that state. Don't care where I am, it should be a state law everywhere if you operate a watercraft...in my opinion, of course. I have seen way too many people on the water doing stupid stuff that a simple course and test would have made them at least think about how dumb it was. Like PFD's, my boat don't move unless everyone is wearing one. I figure that at 60 odd MPH, that might be the only difference between life and death.
Passed the course here in Florida ;)
Just passed Mo. coarse a couple days ago. Lots of things I didn't know and many more I THOUGHT I knew. Was not aware of tome of the PWC laws either. Thanks Spetro for the thread, proud to be able to post my accomplishments here...Steve

Let's not get into how long ago the class was but I did take a boater safety course here in Maryland. I also took several other courses from the Coast Guard Aux. I had a big saltwater boat at the time and was thinking of getting my Captain's License and doing fishing trips. Got tired of the big boat. As they say, "Owning a boat is 80% maintenance, 20% repair and the rest is fun." "Hole in the water, surrounded by wood or fiberglass into which one pours money." Or my favorite, "The true meaning of boat, Break out another thousand." I started bass fishing after that. It was so much cheaper having the boat sitting on a trailer. Kris
hey spetro how long are they good for. I got mine about 10 years ago even though I don't have a boat. ;D
New member here! I passed my boater safety course in Oklahoma before I brought my first boat home. It's a good course. Everyone should HAVE to take it before owning a boat.
i went through and passed the twra course years ago.
Wow! This thread began in 2005. Impressive! I'm certified power squadron here and considering becoming a captain. Passing a basic boater safety exam is compulsory up here before you can operate a small craft and it has saved many lives since it was made mandatory.
Took mine last year, same as the Coast Guard course. Have it on my drivers License. I wish they would make it mandatory across the board.

Completed mine in 2012 when I got my first bass boat
I took mine a 10 years ago in SC. I agree all should have to do it. Also here in SC and other states as well require that all people operating as a guide be certified captains. That too is a good thing and should be insisted upon by anyone hiring a guide.
I used to license for USACE for a few years. Got certified at FLETC, it was a two week course and was awesome. My job position removed me from the program.

It should be mandatory for anyone that owns a boat.
