First off, I just have a few general questions before I place my spring time order of El Grandes. I recently won some of the Tilapia Hatch Matches, and they look killer. I'd like to order some more of these, as well as another "green" color. I was looking at both the Perch and Bluegill, but I'm very picky about my soft plastics colors. I like an orange color in many of my baits as a trigger, and was wondering just exactly what the colors are on these baits. I just wondered because my tilapia are a little different than they look on the site ( in a good way).
Is the perch back a little lighter green than the bluegill?
Is the bluegill belly more of a red or orange color?
Also, I was wondering what color Gila Monster ya'll would suggest for a super clear lake. I have a lake that has monster bass (for PA), but they are very few and even further between. It has a bunch of salamanders crawling around the bottom though. This year I'd like to fish it a little more often, targeting larger fish. I was thinking maybe the Gator color, since I've had success on the Kinami Green Weenie color there before. What do you guys think? Any other color you would suggest for clear lakes would be helpful also.

My Bluegill Hatch Match's are red on the bottom. Rest, I can't help you with, sorry.

I also have the Falcon Bruise Gila Monsters, they are a great color combo, but I can't tell you how the fare, haven't been able to use them yet.
This past Sunday, I killed them in the Florida Everglades using the Baby Bass color. No big 'ins though but lots of them anyway. I am very impressed with the softness of them.

First, If you fishing clear water, try out the Mississippi Mud Hatch Match Stick. I know it's dark, but it's Natural! The Scuppernong and the Green go together better than I thought during production and work GREAT in Clear or Dingy water.
I will throw the Catalpa and the Bluegill all year. Great Colors!
In clear water, my coice on the Gila's are Tolend Bend, Gator Bruise and the Green Pumkin. These are all Great Clear water baits!
The perch has alittle more green tint on the back, the bottoms are very close to each other, with the Bluegill being somewhat lighter.

I don't have any of the Perch on hand, sorry but the Bluegill is more of a red hue if I remember correctly. :-\ I know I'm not helping as much as I should but my boat is back in the shop and most all my gear is in there as well. :'(
As far as the Gila Monster I fish a grass filled lake here that is crystal clear most times due to all the filtration from the grass, most cypress tree lakes have a bit of a tannic stain to it from the trees but for whatever reason the bass there will hit a black blue bait most times before anything else. I've used other colors but never do as well as I do with a B/B. I guess my point on this is that if you know your lake pick whatever matches best for your water. I do like the Green Pumpkin or Watermelon Red for most other clear waters here & the Amistad Bruise is a nice change from the red fleck if you are looking for some green. Another thing I like to do is when using a dark color I take the Komodo's and use my dipping dye pen to color the gray in it to red, chartreuse, orange or blue,,, gives that bait some more color in a swirl effect. ~shhh

thanks guys, I will be putting my order together tomorrow.... I think I;m gonna get some gator and Amistad in the Gilas, and some bluegill and mississippi mud for the hatch matches... Maybe a pack or two of the tubes. lo

Good Choices! ~c~ You will understand what I'm talking about on the Mississippi mud when you see it in the water. AWESOME!! Pure natural look ;D
Ok fellas, one last question...
I noticed the site said to use 5/0-7/0 wide gap hooks for the Gila Monster. Will be headed to Bass Pro tomorrow and was wondering what you guys would recommend. I like to use the smallest hooks possible( that won't cost me bites) for all of my fishing because I truely believe I get better action from my lures this way.
Nate I use a 5/0 EWG or 5/0 flipping hook with them down here

I think you will see with the Gila's anything less than a 5/0 will look like a Finesse hook in them. lo
Hate to bring up and old topic, but I'm preparing an order with alot of terminal tackle. What size hook do you recommend for the Hatch Match Sticks? I'll be getting the Gamakatsu Skip Gaps.
I won a pack of Bonita Shad Colored Hatch Match here a month or so back and just ordered up some Catalpa and Baby Bass colored ones along with my normal big spring order. I know the Baby Bass will work in the waters I fish along with the Water Mellon, place I ordered from was out of stock on the Water Mellon so those are on back order. I know I should have just ordered direct but why pay for two shipping charges, so I went with the back order.
Anyways was wondering what you guys think of the Catalpa color I ordered. More a clear water or stained water color?

Deluca, I like the 4/0 Skip Gaps for the Hatch Match sticks. The bait is a little thicker in the middle than a lot of the other stick baits out there and that adds to the action of the bait, but if you were to go with too small a hook, you would be costing yourself some hook ups. JMHO

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the Catalpa. The color will work in stained water as well as clear, of course where I fish "clear" is a relative term...LOL The catalpa will resemble a shiner/shad in clearer waters and offers a good color contrast and profile for the darker / stained waters.
I tell you what, the Mississippi Mud looks downright nasty.... It's gonna work wonders in my waters around here. I'm also liking the looks of the Chartreuse Shad color.

Thanks for the info. I can not wait to give these a try, dang ice around here is being stubborn ~xyz.
I must be getting sick or something though for instead of laying around dreaming about frog fishing like I normally do this time of year I am day dreaming about throwing one of these. They just look like they are going to be one heck of a hog catching lure.

The private pond was half open yesterday so I am guessing the small ball park pond is open. Da pond is always the last to thaw, will be checking the campground pond on Saturday to see where it stands. In any event, you get well soon Lip.
