Title: Anyone ever use Sufix mono?
Post by: SenkoSam on March 30, 2011, 02:27:42 PM
I bought Siege and Elite spools for 6 bucks on sale at Gander Mt. Not sure what the differences are. The yellow line reminds me of Stren; the red line reminds me of Cajun.

I use suffix Elite in 6 or 8 lb test for my spinning rods.  Moss green.  Like it.  works just the way it is supposed to.

SenkoSam, I use Sufix Elite monofilament and I like it.  I've been using it for a couple of years now.  I believe the Siege is supposed to be more abrasion resistant while the Elite is supposed to be an easier handling line.

Ok just checked there website  they do have a Hi-Vis Yellow in Elite  but not in siege  they do have a Neon Tangerine in Siege  that must be the colors you got   Have never seen them at my Local Gander Mountain

It does depend on location. I work at the Flint MI Gander Mountain, and we actually have all the colors you mentioned in our store. Only difference is that the Camo and Neon Tangerine is now a "discontinued" item in our store, and it was all marked 40% off. I actually got some Seige in 6# Neon for my finesse/weightless plastics rod, I'm pretty happy with that purchase so far even with what little pond fishing I've been able to do with some waters starting to thaw.

I've used every color(except camo) and type from Sufix, mostly in 6, 8, 12, and 15 pound tests and never had any problem with any of it.

Using a loose parallel,

Trilene XL is to Elite and Trilene XT is to Siege

And I do emphasize loosely.  To me Siege and Elite are far better (and I like XL) monos in terms of their ability to resist acquiring memory.

What I find interesting is that Siege and Elite appear to have the same diameter yet to me, Siege seems more abrasion resistant than Elite.

This would support Cold Front's usage of Elite in those tests with spinning gear as I do myself.  I also use Siege in 8 through 12 (casting) for small and medium cranks, 12-14 for salmon and salt water of the piers, I have used 20#.

I have only used clear and the smoke.

Got the yellow and will get the green and smoke in tests other than 8 and 6.

Thanks again everyone!

You might want to check your local Wal Mart stores  all 5 Wal Marts near me have the Sufix Elite Clear on clearance for $6 I Hear there not going to carry it anymore because the Sufix Siege Green  is a bigger seller for them

I'd be all over that. Unfortunately, WalMarts sell different things in different parts of the country. Mine don't sell sufix and in the land with salmon and steelhead are king, the "bass" section is relegated to a dismal 1/3 of one aisle.  Just sad.

Yesterday,  I ordered different color in different tests for 5.99 a spool from Gander Mt. on-line site. Total order was a little over $100 and therefore I automatically got 20 bucks off!  (good until 4/2)

I had a gift card for another 20, thus 40 bucks off. Included was 2 rods and a reel on sale and and enough Trilene (xt and xl in small tests) to get another 3 bucks back from a Berkley rebate (form can be printed from FishUSA website).

Shipping would have been free (as always) except it was 5 bucks extra for the rods.

Can you imagine how much BPS or Cabela's would have charged for the order and shipping?  ~rant

Customer svc was superb!  ~c~ I had a question about entering the gift card.
Gander inventory and selection is impressive and sales excellent, identical at times to the store. Whatever my local store doesn't carry, I know I'll find it on their site.

Did I mention - FREE SHIPPING!

I ordered some nylon anchor rope Grippers (less than 6 oz) for my boats and got charged more than the item price in shipping from a boating site - 8 bucks !The items could have been put into a $4.95, 2-day priority USPS envelope. ~xyz
Worse is the invoice didn't include shipping.

Yep 90% of my tackle is ordered online & from  Gandermountain.com   Free Shipping  & Only $5 to ship a Rod  Can't Beat that !!
BPS gets $16.50 to ship Only 1 rod  $27.50 for 2 rods  there lowest  shipping cost is $5.50  If you only order a $2 lure its going to cost $5.50 to Ship it   that's why i don't order from BPS anymore

Thanks!

For the price, as long as it proves itself, I can't go wrong.
There is a time for braid and a time for a good mono. Should be interesting whether it has reduced memory with UV exposure.

I've always looked at Trilene XL as the 'standard' for memory..in monos...and the suffix elite is equal...  I spool up my spinning reels with it at the start of the season (April) and keep them on the deck of my boat through October...don't have issues with memory...

granted, that's not saying that there's NO Memory...just that it's not an issue and I haven't found lines that are better...

Just to let you no if you dont already the camo they had out is discontinued because they came out with a new version of it and it is still called camo but its a solid color now.
