Does anyone use lipless cranks like rattle traps with spinning gear? Whenever I see the pro using them on tv its with baitcasting gear. If you do use them on spinning what weights? I'm guessing they'd have to be lighter. Thanks!
I've seen some really small and light ones that are best suited for spinning gear. If your spinning rod can handle them okay go for it, or just use what you have.
I will throw a 1/4oz trap on a spinning gear because of the light line and increased casting distance, other than that I will throw all traps on baitcasting gear because of the higher gear ratio reels in order to keep the bait above the grass or high in the water column if I am fishing shallow water...You might have some issues throwing a 3/4oz trap on a 5:4:1 spinning set up.
Thanks for the tips guys
7 foot med/hvy rod and a series 30 or 40 spinning reel with 12-14# mono or 20/6 powerpro, and you can throw pretty much anything in your box....most spinning reels come with an extra spool so you even adapt more to either heavier or lighter line while using the same set up...you can switch from a 1/2 ounce rattletrap ripping through the weeds to a 1/4 ounce jig finessing the shallows..
i use spinning gear for strippers a 8 1/2 ft stealhead salmon rod and a reel that will hold 200 yards or better of mono i throw up to 1.5 oz lures
if you want use a TRUE 1/4 oz lipless crank try the cordell super spots it weighs a true 1/4oz a 1/4 oz Rat-l-trap weighs 12grams which is only 2 grams short of 1/2oz 1/4oz = 7grams the 1/2oz rat-l-trap weighs 17 grams
But if you would like a Real NICE High Quality lipless crank Yo-Zuri does have there Rattl-n vibe lures in 3/8oz = 10.6 grams

My wife told me I can't go near strippers! With spinning gear nor anything else! ::)
~c~ Touche! I didn't even notice that until I read your response!
If she knew what that Van Staal costs, she wouldn't let me near one of them either! lo
My wife fishes Rattle Traps and 1/4oz spinner baits with her spinning rod and reel. :)
