Title: Fruit Jar Bistineau 12/31/11
Post by: JMGullo on December 16, 2011, 05:08:55 PM
Sorry for the confusion but we are still far enough out to get the word out. I know Bistineau is safe and useable so let's go there. Plus maybe I can get Ron out the house. Same deal as before. $30 entry $10BB. 5 fish limit. Safe light til 3. I'll pay 3 places if turn out allows.

Just got an interesting text from Brad Watson AKA watsjigs. Thought you all would get a good laugh.

"Me and Dan got it planned out, practice starts Monday! I'm sending the warning shot...we will own Bistineau! Bring it! Lol!"

"Let your buddy cork know too! Lol!"

Huh?? Yea if I had the 10lb handicap that you were talking bout.

Your just scared that me and him are going to wear u out. You forget I am off work for two weeks prior and you know he don't work. Poor Brad I can believe you going to put a youth out there to such a big disappointment.

Awe it won't be so bad... Let's do this John, we'll launch everyone and then run back to the truck stop and have some breakfast. That way the sun can get good and up. Once's it's warmed up we'll get back to the lake. I only need about an hour or so :-* so if we get back about 9ish we'll have plenty of time to float around and check up on everyone before we get after it.  ~roflmao ~roflmao

Yeah that's Johns favorite, I have to make him leave them home when we go fishing. He'll get fixated on them and just sit in the seat playing with them and drooling on himself.... and not fishing ~roflmao ~roflmao

I'll prolly need a good nap after breakfast too. We could alway pay separate entry fees and take first and second?? That way Brad can't even get a check.

Yeah Goober asked me to fish with him before he even set it up :surrender: I went something like this.

Goober: Hey Cork lets plan on fishing on the 31rst
Cork: Sure I think I can pull that off but it's New Years Eve... Should be able to handle it
Goober: Quit whining you old man, if you can't handle it say so
Cork: I'll be fine...

Then Goober posts in the forum that there is a Fruit Jar on the 31rst  ~roflmao ~roflmao ~roflmao

I agree with him about Shawn. Atleast he can lie if he doesn't make weigh in.

As far as the fishing and drinking?? Y'all coonasses think y'all are something. This redneck can cook better, drink more and out fish( with cork) y'all any day.

I was kinda wondering about that...Maybe he is being a little cautious since this will be the first time he is fishing AGAINST the iClass...  ~roflmao

Ron and I have both been in the boat with Cork...We know some of his secrets!  Hope he shows up for the tournament.  Not trying to scare him off the water...

Ron and I do pretty well in the boat, fished Big Sam last year.  Had a great time, probably 50 fish in the boat...Just missed the kicker.  Still a great day.  I heard Mr. Fogelson was in the know on Bisteneau. I am trying to learn some of these lakes up this a way...

He is a pretty well rounded Angler from what I have seen and can fit with just about any partner he wants too.  He crank, Flip, Pitch,PowerFinesse and Don't forget the Fogy Green Shock was developed for Bist.

Ron has his 'loaner' we are fishing out of...No worries there.  I would let him use mine if he needed it.  Am looking forward to fishing Bist.  I have heard a lot about it, but have never made the trip.  Stoked that I'll be meeting a lot of y'all for the first time, and of course thrilled that I get to see some friends that I haven't seen in a while.

Dang Cork...Gonna leave me to out to dry on that one...let's see, Red River Fishing.  We've been 2X.  Last time you got me, Yes I distinctly remember you sending me to school.  (That's what I came for) but lets see, there was a time in the not so distant past that if I recall...I think I was able to put at least 1 fish in the boat  ::)

Gonna be fun, Fogy and I have already discussed where, how, and the fact we will have to add bouyancy to his boat to accomodate the extra weight of our 5 fish stringer!

Y'all are HILARIOUS!!!

Got me missin Lake Bistineau something fierce. Dad used to fish with a local bass club there and the "home" lake was Bistineau. I wish I remembered the name of the club. I do remember that we had some of our meetings at a place near the dam.

Just asked my dad and it was Webster Bass Club. Are they still around? Anyone here?

There is a Webster Club not sure of the name or if it's the same one or not but they host the Firemans tournament each year on Bist but the last "i think" 2 years it was a scramble because all the lakes have been so low

Oh, dang.  Thought you were talking about dreams...that's what I was doing... ;)

Actually, gonna be able to hit the Bass Champs Trail this year.  Took me awhile to find a trail I could fish on my days off.  Hard to even find a club that matches.  I almost always seem to be 180 out...

Red stickers become pink due to sun fading, Jello if you spent more time on the water in boat rather than under the car port it would make cents, but then again rumor has it you can only count to one!!!

So how many years have you fished the ABA now?  I've done it 3 and the last two without a boat.  ;)
With that in mind I'll take a 2nd in the ABA on my own anytime over a 1st from other peoples info. All the while getting it done from a 12 year old loaner boat without any working electronics rather than the free ride loaded with big flat screens a pro like you gets each year.    ~c~ ~c~

I also wanted to pass on my thanks because with all those bells and whistles you couldn't be bothered to bring any fish to the scales for our little club tournament at the start of the month.  This allowed me to finally take a 1st and by over 6lbs even.  I'm sure with the huge load you carry around had you manned up to the scales with us little guys I would have been reduced to 2nd once again.   lo lo

I may use others info occasionally, humm that part of the game. But you can only go so far on ABC fish, my brother. Get some equipment and move out into the big open water, you might do better. ~roflmao

Oh no, fair and square you had the best stringing on the club event 5 boats and two left early because of the rain. I had good fish in the waiting for the 30 boat event that was coming in 6 days. Unlike you, I don't know that lake that well and need to save those fish and was using the 5 boat tournament as a pre fish. I need all the time I can get on this majestic lake, because I don't LIVE on it.... And every time anyone tries to fish it more than once you bust their balls about having to pre fish SOOOO much. But Hey I'd try and protect the only water I had a shot on too.

Again You try and turn the tide  ~roflmao ~roflmao Nationals had no air under my head but getting to fish against the best of the best and coming in 8th sure does. Oh and that check I took at they nationals that your so afraid off, covered the weeks stay in South Carolina..... Now if I could have had a gas sponsor :o

Dang, DB, down here, some people get all bent if you don't have fancy enough rims on your trailer.  Just kidding.  Most people do require a live well though; and I don't mean a stringer hanging over the side of your boat!

See now as a local tourney director I have all that covered. Remember, when my boat was new it was labeled Bass Boat. So it does have a livewell with fresh water pump, spray bar, overflow drain, etc. I also have a spare that I can put in the boat that plugs into an outlet with a aerator in it ;)

DB I don't know of a club that has a rule against it but there are a lot of clubs.  The times I've seen it listed it was a safety call for those running the event or circuit.  Was told it was dangerous to do a blast off with 18 to 21ft boats running 150's and up blasting past a smaller boat with only tiller control.

I ran a tiller handle for a long time, of course it was a 25 hp and 40hp and it never bothered me to get passed up...I found other ways to get out front of everyone, even if it was only for a short while...No Guts, No Glory!!!!  I have actually been thinking about getting another Aluminum boat with a surface drive motor.

I'm gonna be on a quest for a 25 2 stroke here soon. My lil old Merc was made before kill switches and just doesn't have enough hp for me. A buddy has a 25 on his 14' glass boat and tops out at 25mph, I imagine I can break 30 lo
Title: Re: Fruit Jar Bistineau 12/31/11
Post by: ~Dwight~ on December 30, 2011, 05:53:34 PM
David, do some looking around and see if you can find a 3 cyclinder Yamaha 25Hp.  They are two stroke and can run a 15/44 aluminum boat in the upper 20's to lower 30's depending on setup and load.  They only made them a few years so will take some looking around.  And they are usually a little more pricey than the standard 2 cyclinder.  My Mercury 25 and Mariner 25 would run 29 with a empty boat and just me in it.  I had a 13P prop on both and also ran a jackplate.

DB, just watch "Swamp People". They have subtitles. If you learn to understand that, you can understand anything. This far north in Shreveport, it is more like east Texas. Plus Fogy and I are bilingual so we can translate from coonass or red neck to Yankee for ya.

Beginning the job search here soon. I think going down for the classic will help me (and I guess maybe the wife) get a better idea of where things are. Biggest issue we have now is we find a place that looks good online, but no idea if it's in a safe neighborhood or what not lo

Rule #1; stay on the east side of the river! ;) I'd be happy to answer anything y'all have a question on too. ;D

Think Bossier Parish, which includes Bossier City, Benton, Haughton.

Our biggest thing with housing is avoiding an apt. Between the boat and the dog, we want to keep both with us!

Anyone else shocked by salvania on lake last week?

Not shocked but disappointed.

With the lake was drawn down it is hoped that if done slowly the salvania will be left high and dry and with the lack of rain this year it's was believed to be a great way to kill it off.  While it is unknown to me just how much did or didn't die off that was left on the banks and up on the trees and docks what I think did happen is that with all the back waters that were cut off from the main lake they acted like a nursery and it continued to grow.  Once we got some rain to help bring the lake back up it also opened the back waters and allowed this chit to move freely back out to the main water ways.

If we can get some more long term cold, continue the spraying when it's spotted in open waters, continue to adjust the lake up and down to trap and then wash it over the spill way along with the thinning of the cypress trees and dredging the back waters and fixing the Bistineau dam to allow water to flow over the top the lake won't be lost.  But until there is a way to outright kill this stuff or control the growth IMHO this will continue to be an issue here and will affect all our waters to some degree or another.
