We are discussing a trip to one of these 2 lakes for early to mid April. We primarily fish water shallower than 10ft. Just wondering which lake is easier to learn, maybe some tips, your preference, and which is easier to get out of the wind on windy days.
I cannot answer your question completely since I have never been to Chickamauga. I have been to Guntersville many times though and me and quite a few others on here can give you some advice on guntersville if that is where you decide to go.
There is a member here that goes by the handle "Coldfront" that lives on Chickamauga. He is typically very helpful if you have questions. You could PM him and he might be able to give you some information.
But, if you ask me, here is what "I" think you should do. I think you should go to Chickamauga in April and then go with us to the UB rally in Guntersville this fall. That is a win-win answer if I ever heard one. =)

Full moon is April 29, and as a wise angler/guide once told me: don't go fishing on a full moon - they have other things on their mind than eating.
the two weeks leading up ought to be prime.
I might head down to GA and Carters Lake looking for a big spot.
Thanks guys It's a tough decision lol. Both will be fun regardless. Unfortunately doing anything In the fall is out of question. My fishing season ends first week of September because I soil test for farmers. No time off during harvest season it's busy busy.

Off topic for the OP but, is that a good lake? We are actually going on family vacation near there in March and I'm thinking about taking a few poles with me.
It's all according to what time of year you are going for Guntersville! 10' or less will be tough in mid summer, it's all ledge and mat edge fishing during that time. The rest of the year you'll be ok, the fish usually move up in late Feb to spawn and that will last on and off for a couple of months, I have seen. Then they go to the ledges, it's slow and monotonous, but can be very rewarding when you hit the good spots. They will then move into the mats around September, (according to weather patterns of course) and stay there until it the water gets cold again. You can also catch them in early and late fall in the creeks and around the bridges, just like you can during the Spring.

Thanks Lee. Any info Is helpful. In My Op I said mid April so hopefully there will be shallow fish. However I think we're leaning towards guntersville more. Old hickory was another option as well but think we got our lake figured out. Just looking over cabins and prices and all that. Price and location plays a factor as well

If you get it set up, let me know, I'll do some diggin' with the locals to get some ideas for you! If by chance you want to do a guided morning or day, let me know, Jake Davis is the best up there in my opinion, he is also a posting member here!

Cabin? Call Cathy (she's handling Connie's cabins while she's getting treatments) YOU can ask anybody that has been to our rally up there and they will be quick to tell you, these girls are the best!!

Ya especially April. It's a crazy month. After a few days of fishing and on a boat I prefer a cozy cabin as well lol Thanks for the number and website. I'm gonna go talk to my grandparents after a bit. See what they think. I need to get on the ball April Is coming fast.
Justin, I have used Jake's guide service before and I can tell you first hand that they do a fantastic job. You will learn more about bass fishing with them then you could possible imagine. Also note, If you hire his company, all the equipment is provided if you don't want to drag your stuff down there. Several other here have experienced the same suburb results from Jake and you won't be sorry that is for sure.

it's a tiny tin boat (ranger RT178 that cruises at a blistering 30mph -GPS!), but you are welcome any time.
I'm out on the water most Saturdays. Have two weeks of vacation taking in mid April this year - you want to come up and run the bow, you're welcome to it.
Might even be able to offer a guest bedroom.
you just have to figure out how serious you want to be about it.

Lee is a good cook! Lee's prime rib was the best that I have ever eaten. Lee's only fault is his alarm clock, it is a bit "Clangy". =)
