Title: Fishing gear questions
Post by: PaxRN on February 10, 2019, 12:47:36 PM
Hello all, getting back into fishing.  Been about 8 years since storing a lot of plastics, rods/reels and supplies.   Big question is do y'all think the extra spools of line would still be good if it has been stored in climate controlled storage?    Would the plastic baits also be good?

Thanks for any input

If it's braid, it might be o.k.  I wouldn't trust mono after that long.

I'm with Don on the line. Braid maybe but I'd toss the mono. Baits? Try 'em and see. They're probably good enough to start with.

IMHO anything other than braid would be trashed without question. Personally id strip every spool braid included. Sure 8 yr old line may catch fish but what a heartache to have your monster PB on your line and snap! All because you decided $10 in new line was not worth it.  ::)

Its like questioning a rusty hook. Sure it might still catch fish but in the grand scheme of a entire fishing trip, fishing line and hooks are so easy and inexpensive to remove from becoming a questionable part of the trip.

If you really want to have fun, go buy all new rods and reels and take a few dates with the Bait Monkey.
