Title: Thinking About A Daiwa Fuego CT
Post by: Smallie_Stalker on July 25, 2019, 05:28:22 PM
So, I have some money sitting in my Amazon gift card balance and I have another $15 credit from Amazon coming within the next week.

They currently have the Fuego CT in the 8:1 retrieve for $79. If they still have them when that credit comes through I can pick one up for less than $10 out of pocket.

Will this reel handle pitchin' and frogging? Are the bearings decent or will I need to consider upgrading them?

I tried Daiwas YEARS ago and I didn't quite feel like they were right for me then. But things change quick in the fishing world. I'm also not a fan of magnetic braking, but it seems that has improved a lot over the years too.

At $10 out of pocket, even if I don't like it I figure is not that big of a loss.

Thanks for any opinions and help you guys can offer.

Hehe, I feel partially responsible for you having these mischievous thoughts. I'll let you know how I like mine once I get it set, although take it with a grain of salt because I dont have anything to compare it to. I'll do my best to share my 2cents though.

Appreciate that bud. Sometimes not having anything to compare it to is a good thing. It forces you to review the reel as it stands on it's own.

I love my Daiwa Reels, all five of them.  But......Unless it has a SV Spool I would not be interested.  It has made all the difference to me and my level of skills.

It's a great reel out the box, and easily upgradeable. You'll be fine out the box flipping/pitching/frogging. The Magforce brakes are nothing like your average Abu style magnets. Honestly, the ergonomics of the reel might be the only issue I think you might encounter overall, but not to say it will be an issue. Internally, it's the same reel as the Tatula CT/SV reels, minus a bearing. Hell, I still have my Tatula CT Type R/Fuego because it's a really solid platform.

Is there an SV spool that would fit this reel? Not that I would do that right away, but further down the road if I wanted to stick it on a different rod for lighter baits would that be doable?

No. The Tatula SV spool wont work in the CT reels. For whatever reason they made the spool diameter different.
