Title: 794sb va 806cb va others
Post by: strongx on November 07, 2020, 06:50:38 AM
Hey guys! I need some advice on a 8xd/10xd rod. I have a 805cb that I plan on trying but suspect it might get overwhelmed with the 10xd. Will I feel a noticeable improvement with the 806cb? I have read where Mr Dobyns also recommends a 794sb for the lures and lighter rigs. I haven't started with the alabama rigs yet, but it would be awesome if the same rod can help me there as well. I'm in TN where I believe we have restrictions on the size of the bama rigs.

I was surprised to see where the 4-power was being mentioned for the same uses as the 6-power. Have you guys used either of these rods for the uses I describe or another that you would recommend? Also, is there a rod in the fury series that would be nearly as good as the champions I mention?

Check the pinned dobyns rods designations post to see why a 4 power can be recommended over a 6.
TL;DR A swimbait rod≠crankbait rod.

Now if you're looking in the Fury line up, you don't mind the extra weight and will welcome the extra handle length, the 806HSB will sling 1.5-2oz lures out there. The only thing that's an issue is you'd want to have two reels or two spools so that you can fish a deep crank and a big bait or a-rig effectively. I will say, I've only casted the crankbaits with the 806 just to see if it could pull double duty, but haven't caught a fish on it with the lighter line(10lb big game) however I don't think it's an issue unless you're trying to use 8lb.

Tacticalbassin just posted a new vid and they said they like the 805 better for 10xd's than the 806

Thx 1badair. I'll check it out. I have an 805 that is great for 6xd and will throw an 8xd pretty well. I had to really lob the 10xd on it, but maybe the 10xd gets lobbed on everything!

10 XD is a large bait. I think a 6 power would cast it well. But I'd be leery of going to a six power with treble hooks. Now an A Rig that is going to weigh a couple ounces and has single hooks, or a swimbait that has a large single hook or a giant treble hook would be a different story, the extra power would be necessary for driving a hook home.

Now I don't fish these baits that much, hell I haven't fished a 10 XD, just casted it a few times. So I don't know what would be best. I also use a 795 for my heavy A Rig, and a 735 for my light A rig stuff...

The 806CB was made for 10XD baits. The 805 doesn't have enough power to really launch the bait. Will the 805CB work? YES it will but you must use a lob style cast and will not get the distance as you would with the 806CB. The 805CB fishes the bait well, just doesn't cast the bait as well as an 806CB.

The point about a 4 power verse a 6 power here. The 4 power is a Swimbait 4 power and the 6 power is a CB 6 power. There's lots of differences here. There's SB powers, CB powers, Flippin powers, and everything else.

The 794SB was made for lighter swim baits and it doubles for a 10XD rod perfectly. I believe it takes some of the work out of the 10 XD. That bait pulls hard. The 794 might not cast as far, truthfully I've never put them side by side and tested this. My gut says the 806 will slightly out cast 806 but I think the 794 fishes the bait better.

I'd buy the one that I could get the most use out of with other baits too. Both will fish the 10 XD. The 806CB would be my choice for the 8XD. THX!!

Hey Gary if you see this can you explain how the DC 803SB FR is a three power but is rated up to 2 oz and also labeled for 10 XDs. I have thrown 6 XDs on it with no problem but tied on a Booyah Streak 4 Crankbait in the garage yesterday and not sure I feel comfortable throwing this bait even though the rod says it was made for this.
