Title: Lake O/US 27 (3/31/21)
Post by: Capt. BassinLou on March 31, 2021, 09:00:15 PM
Fished solo today, decided to take the drive up to South Bay and check it out. Arrived right after sunrise. Made it to the first area I wanted to check out, and as suspected, water was dirty. Made a run over to the back areas of Pelican and it was dirty. Ran up through Boyscout to check out the flats, and there was an airboat spraying. Smh. The whole area has been nuked, and the vegetation has already started turning yellow. With 0 fishing action, and spray boats around, I called it, and decided to go to the glades instead.

I made it to the ramp before noon, and decided to try the East side of 27 again. The west side ramp was packed with boats. That ramp had 0 parking and its a Wednesday!!
Before I launched, a boat was pulling out and the guys told me the fishing was very,, very slow, as well as very,, very windy. Great..

I launched and ran North for a couple of miles, and deployed both my drift socks. That did the trick, I was moving at a pretty slow pace considering the wind was blowing pretty good.

Started fishing, and for the first 2 hours I couldn't catch a cold!! Keeping my focus, I tried several techniques, until I stumbled across a pattern by accident. The action was short lived, but it provided me with enough information to make a change, and the change paid off!! Started boating bass at a consistent rate. Nothing to brag about, but catching 2-2.5lbs bass can be pretty fun, especially when it was ghost town just 2 hours prior. Couldn't entice any big girls to play, but I did manage to boat 38 bass. I called the trip at 5:30. I was little bit tired already. ;)  Took some pics, hope you guys enjoy them, thanks for reading.

Thanks for the report my friend.  You found some just by sheer determination!   ~bb  Way to go Lou, I would have been long gone by the time you started catching.  Were they deep, pulling a worm along the bottom?    :-\.  Love the drift sock when you have a stiff wind behind you. :-*

Thanks George, I found the majority of the fish were outside along the second ledge line, 4 - 6 feet in depth, which for that part of water makes it the mid-depth zone. They wanted something slowly moving with a quick sudden burst of movement. It took me hours to figure that out. They made my mind work yesterday that's for sure.  lo

Thanks Barry, don't get me wrong, I would have loved to have come across bigger fish, or a clue for a chance of bigger fish. Sometimes just figuring out the bite is the reward.   lo
