Windy & cold......the week before Barry recommended that I tie on a spinner bait.....I tied on the same color chatterbait instead.....no luck.....switched to a spinner bait and caught some.......yesterday I went with it pretty early and was catching them in shallow water with wood......this made for some interesting fights because we all know where bass head when you hook 'em........I was actually going to leave this area within a couple of casts when boom she came out from under a lay down and smoked it. She didn't like the net but there was no way I was boat flipping it.

Where to go.... where to go?? There has been a surge of boats in the glades for quite some time, and every day. Although from what I hear they are not bass fisherman per say, but more like oscar hunters. None-the-less there have been more boats out there than normal. I have an idea, let's see if it pays off. ;) :-*

FYI ... Ott DeFoe did a Hunt for Monster Bass episode in the Everglades that aired this past Sat. Caught a 7lber so everyone and their brother will be out there this week. :)

Soooo my fishing trip has been cut short. Sitting in an ER typing this out killing time. Damn treble hook struck again. Had a fish, it wiggled loose, hook went into my index finger good.
Problem #1, I had the fish in one hand, got hooked in my other hand, and my rod is between both hands. Nothing I could think of to free up my hands. I did remember there was another boat on another canal. Got on the TM and found the boaters.
Problem #2, one of the gentlemen managed to carefully remove the fish. Next was attempting to remove the hook. I had a wire cutter in the boat, and as I handed the cutters to gentleman, I thought he was going to cut the split ring, to isolate the treble hook. Instead he cut the treble level to my wound!! Noooo..... doh!!!
With the hook deep in finger, I thanked everyone for their help, packed up, and made the run back to the ramp. Got home, switched vehicles, and here I am waiting at the ER. Stay tuned. Smh...

Ouch. Once the guy cut the hook off, you lost the option of jerking it out yourself with the string method. Good luck!

Dr told me to man up next time and have someone cut the hook correctly next time, and drive the hook through the other side. I said, "Yeah.... I will just come to the ER again..." ~roflmao ~roflmao

Breaking in the new Dobyns Sierra company rods tomorrow. Fishing with half the lot, mainly power fishing techniques. Reports are still coming in with 100+ bass being caught, but the sizes are not there yet. Let's see how it goes tomorrow. ~gf ~gf

Only used the motor to run it off and back on the trailer.
Rest of the day I was on the trolling motor. Used the wind in my favor a lot.
Hits came in spurts, but once I figured out a plan from 12:00-3:00 it was pretty regular every so often.
I culled up several times. Wanted to hit one last stretch before I left and that's where I got the big girl.
On the water at 8:00 off at 4:00.

Put all new Fuel Line on the Boat from the Tank to the Filter yesterday. I was changing the Bulb in case that was my problem and found the liner inside the hose had left go.
Bought Lifetime Warranty Coast Guard Approved line from West Marine. Cost more than the Marine Fuel Line from a Auto Parts Place but they only had a 1-year warranty.
Talking with the manager at West Marine about my old line (bought new in 2016) he told me that that style (plastic outer line-inner liner) was banned in 2013 for delaminating issues. I told him I bought it new in 2016 from a Mercury Dealer, and he just smiled and said "then they didn't follow the guidelines. We were instructed to remove and destroy all we had when it was outlawed in 2013".
Might be a small piece got into the injectors or something, Motor didn't run any different with the new line. I will know after the 22nd.
While out I fished for about 3 hours. Put 5 in the boat but no Culls.

I lost an absolute toad this morning in Cypress. Swimming a vibe just off the bottom and, tick. I set the hook into a rock that did not move, it started stripping drag so I locked the spool down with my thumb to keep her out of the buggy whips, it made a 5 foot diameter swirl just below the surface and spit the hook....possibly the biggest fish of my life, and I never saw her....

Barry tuned me into them 3 weeks ago and I've been throwing them into lay downs, wood, everything. I bought a spinner bait with painted blades and knocked most of the paint off of one of them. It's been a fun month.

On my outing today I came across this uniquely shaped bass. It's back was like a 4lbr, but the rest of its body was like that of a 2.5br.

Well it was as I thought a Coil was bad making one cylinder not fire. Part is ordered and should have boat back by next Thursday or so.

While they have my boat I'm going to let them raise it one hole.
It was way to low from the original Dealer that mounted the motor. It was in the 2nd hole down giving me a Prop to Pad of 4.5-4.75.
I talked to a Ranger Engineer and my boat left Ranger with no motor. The Dealer installed it.
The Ranger Guy told me they install them All on the 3rd hole down at the factory.
Raising it should raise my RPMs from 5250 closer to the 5750 it maxes at.
Eventually I'd like to add a Jack plate to fine tune it but that's not in the cards right now.

I've put several fish in the Boat the last two trips, but no Culls. I'm done for April.
Got the Boat back yesterday and Man what a difference raising that motor made! Hole Shot is great! Top End is better than it ever was!

My RPMs on the Dash Tach is at 5800, which is right. The Motor tachs out at 5750. The Smartcraft Monitor is shot. I have to buy a new one. That will tell me real Tach RPMs.

Fishing was meh... today unfortunately. Not a report worthy type of outing. Had fun, and a bunch of laughs, but the fishing never turned "on".
