Lew's Tournament Pro Speed Spool Casting Reel - awesome anti braking, Wow!!!

I used a speed spool tournament the last part of the season. I was lucky enough to get the sale priced combo from Cabela's. A speed spool tournament with a speed stick rod for the ridiculous price of 139.95. The combo isn't in this years catalog. I should have bought more of them. The speed spool was the one just under the tournament pro. I love that combo. I have quite a few high end reels and this one is one of my favorites. I can only imagine what the pro model is like. I'll find out because I plan on ordering a Pro and two of the models like my first one. They just feel right in my hand. I will buy a few different ratio's. My first was a 6.4.1. If these reels hold up I may sell off a few of my Revo and Curado's( Older models) and buy more Lew's. The Lew's speed stick rod is a sturdy work horse as well.

I'm with you on that one.  I'm really impressed with the Lews and I really like my AG Revos.  All said though I want to see how these Lews hold up.  If they do, hmm.....

The old Lew's Speed Spool was originally made by Shimano before they started manufacturing their own line of reels, i.e. Shimano Bantam, etc. They were never American made as far as I know. I used the old one, the B1. I just ordered 2 Speed Spool Tournament reels yesterday. Supposed to be here Thursday.
   If you look you can see the Shimano name on the gear sideplate on the old B1 reels. Photos on Google.

If I recall correctly shimano made the Lews at first, also ryobi. After Lew Childre was killed the company was sold to Browning and I think in the end Zebco owned the Name.
  Now I guess it's pure fishing who owns the rights to use the name, but thats about the only connection to the original Lews as far as I can tell anyway.

I was at a Cabelas this past summer and almost bought the Tourny Reel for $ 129.95 but since I don't fish as often as I would like to, just didn't want to shell out that much $$.  Then a bit later, they had that special with the rod for $ 139.95 so I went and ordered one.  WOW !!!  It is my frog rod right now until the Dobyns I want is on sale. Casts a mile and lightwieght.  Couldn't pass up that deal from Cabelas and also wish I had bought more.

Its the same gearing no matter which model you get.
I broke them all down in September 2009 when they first hit the market for a friend who was thinking of taking on the line.
When you move from model to model its side plate material, spool material, extra bearings, and handles.
Really a basspro reel painted black with tear drop handles not much innovation.
Pflueger sold the reels for years under the summit name and basspro under Johnny Morris name.
Low end line was Browning reel they sold a few years back for $69 all day long.
Next models up were various models of the Johnny Morris reels with some upgrades on the handle.
In a few years people will find out they are buying the Johnny Morris reel.
Great for a year or two then when they go bad good luck on parts.
Really liked the Pflueger summit biggest down fall was parts that why you don't see many Johnny Morris reels still around from 2004 or 2005 period.
Its a disposable reel that last maybe a year or two and that is it.
When you have problems with them there will not be the parts to support it.

A disposable reel that wont last a year or two? are you serious i have pinnacles that have lasted longer than that. now no reel will last without proper maintenance i dont care who makes it. I made the switch over a year ago and my reels still perform the way the did when i took them out of the box. ...................

I was wanting to upgrade to a better reel and the owner of my local tackle shop turned Me onto Lews reels ! I left that day with a TS1HMG and I have to tell ya it is the smoothest reel I have ever held in my hand ! I can whip that thing a country mile and I can't make it backlash .... I have tried lol. It feels great in My hand , it just fits . It is a workhorse , so as soon as uncle Sam sends me some of those hard earned tax dollars I paid in This year I am gonna get a couple more ! List price was $129.99 I got it for $106 and paired it up with a new Daiwa Arid rod i tell ya I like them alot too but think the Lews would probably work good on any rod out there ! Just my opinion but Lews has my business for years to come !

Just picked up a lower end Lews yesterday.  Matched it with a 7' Veritas, and all I can say is wow.  For less than 200.00 I didn't know I could have something that feels this good.  If you are reading these post and haven't gone to buy a new Lews yet, what are you waiting for.

As far as it being a throwaway.  Sounds like that is coming from someone who treats tackle like it is throwaway.  I have some Shakespeares and Shimanos that are close to 20 years old that have been switched over to catfish duty.  They get cleaned every 3 years or so and they work fine.
This is just my opinion of course.

I picked up a Lews Tournament a few weeks ago. After using it a lot the last few weeks i am extremely impressed. I am a hard core shimano guy, and i think this reel compares to a curado as far a feel. time will tell about durability.

I bought the "Tournament" and not the "Tournament Pro" because i couldn't justify the extra $50 bucks for a cool handle, one extra useless bearing, and little less weight. From what can tell the parts that effect performance are identical between the two. Sometimes a heavier reel helps balance a rod better anyway.

Tournament pro is by far best reel on the market at any price range. Just wish they made a left-handed high speed.

I have one of the Team Lew's TL1H Reels and can't imagine any reel in the same price range being any better.  Now I know it is Lew's top of the line reel but the thing is an outstanding and durable reel.  I fished it at least 5 days a week all last spring summer and fall and say that the thing is working better now than it did when it was new.  I have it paired up with a G-Loomis NRX 804C JRW 6'-8"  Heavy/Fast Rod and is just a dream to fish with.  I am a big fan of the Lew's reels and will like others have said will be a repeat customer in the future.

Well I stand corrected.  I just received one of the Lews TP1SH Reels and got to fish it for the first time last night.  I think I actually like it better than my more expensive Team Lews TL1H.  I can't believe how far I can cast with the darn thing and incredibly smooth this reel is.  I have a second supposed to be here today and I considering buying one more just for good measures.  I love the Lews reels.

I can't say enough about the Lew's line up. I have Revo's, Curado's, PQ's and I tend to pick up my Lew's more. I hope they hold up like the other three. I'm really on the band wagon. Next I want to try Lew's spinning reel. I'll pick one up at the Cabela's near Ann Arbor when I head down there next week. Hope they are in stock! I really don't care where they are made as long as they keep casting the way they do.

just got this reel last week and wow it is so awesome. better than any shimano, and quantum that I have every used
