Spooling up some reels

I have had a Shimano NASCI 2500 and a Daiwa SVTW103HS for one month.  I can't remember the last time that I ever waited that long to spool a new reel.  Spooled the Nasci with 20# power pro and paired it to the wife's Dobyns Fury 663 Spinning rod.  The balance of the combination is really really good and I think she will be very satisfied with how it feels.  The Daiwa is getting some Power Pro 30# and will be paired with my original LSCR.  Should make a great pairing.  I have moved one of the Daiwa reels over to my new Fury 705CB and it is spooled with Sufix Siege 10# and plan on using it for some crankbait applications.  Decided to do this today to help me scratch my itch to go fishing.  This now makes my on deck selections as a Dobybs 735, A Dobyns 705CB, A LSCR 7' MH Fast and a LSCR 6.5' MH Fast  I think that will cover my bases on most trips.  Although this is more than I want on deck I will just have to see how they fit.

I actually just got done hooking mine to the fence and walking through the street to make sure they were spooled tight enough.

I guess I should check some of mine that I haven't used In awhile. But I hate spoiling them up early and then if I never use them the like is just wasted. I have too many is the problem. I need to retire some of the ones I don't use.
Bud I don't like a lot on deck either. I actually hate spinning on deck the reels seem to take up too much room and don't lay down very well. 3 or less bait caster im good 4 is ok but no more on my front deck. I just get to wild I guess.

The Mrs. is a spinning reel only person.  Been trying to get her to use casting reels but no deal.  We usually each have two rods on deck and one in hand on most trips.  I'll admit it is awfully hard to leave a perfectly good combo at home and we are always tempted to bring too much.  If we are fishing out of town we take more rods but some will stay in the truck depending upon the type of fishing we are doing.

Not really sure when.  It all depends upon when the new boat trailer is ready.  Nothing is gonna happen till then. I might get a day or two before the boat gets its new carpet but the schedule is in limbo until the new trailer is delivered.  Depending upon weather I might go down to Charleston and fish a bit with Terry G.  Long range forecast has temps returning to near normal so it is gonna be a bit cool for a bit and us old men don't like being cold.     All in all it is still a bit early in the year and this very warm weather tends to give a false sense that spring is really here when most likely the end of March is more promising.

Nice post that should help some guys that are trying to figure out a sensible way to arrange things. Mine are similar. I use braid where you use fluorocarbon but my water has extremely low visibility.

I find myself switching more and more outfits over to braid and switching from FireLine to Power Pro Slick 8. We should be allowed to use politicians for casting practice!!!

I've got 12# Sufix Pro-Mix on my Caenan for topwater, 40# J-braid X-8 on my 5000 for anything heavy, and just recently put some 40# PP slick 8 on my Curado for t-rigs, small spinners, stuff like that. Going to put some 15-20# J-braid on my speed spin.

On this note, notice I've gone from J-braid to PP on one of my reels.
Some may consider this sacrilege, but...
I like the J-braid better.
It may be completely messy as hell and gets green crap every-freaking-where, but it's softer, smoother, I feel like it lays more evenly on my reel, and the PP stuff wants to try and come unraveled when I tie and bunch up at the knot. I've also had several spots where I've backlashed a little and the line has started to fray.

I seem to be having the exact opposite experience as everyone else with both these lines and it's kinda boggling my mind.
I will say the PP seems much stronger than J-braid in comparable (labeled) strengths. For instance, with this 40# on each reel, if I get hung on something I can wrap the J-braid around a stick and break it if I haul on it hard enough. With the PP, I had to pull the tire scrubbing brush out of my car, wrap the line around the handle, dang near cut it in half, and had to really lean into it to break it off. That's not to say the j-braid is a complete wuss, I had to pull it HARD. But trying to break off the PP felt like tug-o'-war with a clydesdale!

If I'm ever in a position where I'm getting hung in lily pads, PP will be my go-to braid. But for now, I think I'm going back to J-Braid.

Picked up a Curado I and Curado K over the last few months.  Spooled the Curado I, which is on a Dobyns Savvy 735, with 40# Berkley Pro Grade braid and 12# mono leader for swimbaits, topwater, and heavier jigs, and 20# Seguar mono (equivalent to 12 lbs mono size in other brands) on the K for cranks, spinners, and light jigs.  My plastics rigs (Curado 70 and Daiwa Revros) have 30# Berkley tracer braid on them with an 8 lbs. fluoro leader. 

This is my first season trying out braid, and Berkley had a great sale on their Pro Grade in tracer -- $16 for 300 yards.

SHC after reading this post I think you should highly consider some Spiderwire Stealth. It's a fantastic line if you're looking to break off easy. No braid I've ever used has shown me the special ability to break off that Spiderwire Stealth showed.

Lol, pfft, NOT looking for easy to break, haha! Pointing out that my very limited experience with PP is that it's hard as a log chain to break and it'll cut like a razor blade!

Nah, biggest reason I tried braid to begin with is cause I got tired of losing stuff. I'd rather bend a hook or yank one out of a hard bait. Tungsten weights get expensive when you lose enough of them, and I can repair a hard bait or replace the hooks on it within reason, if it's not damaged too bad. On soft plastics, I'd rather ruin an Owner Cutting Point, than lose both it AND the weight.

I'm a PowerPro guy but I have been using the Berkley Tracer as well just not on my very heavy cover setups. I like the stuff pretty good at a sale price but it's over priced normally. I use it for Texas rigged plastics. The coloring does fade but it doesn't make a huge mess doing it. Also I find it gets real light fuzzies but nothing I'm really calling a negative.

Good to know.  It was kind of a coin flip for me, so the price won out.  I'm going to try Power Pro or Sufix 832 next if I'm not happy with the Tracer.

I strongly agree with the Stealth breaking.  First two trips with it I broke off four nice fish.  I didn't give it a third chance!

A very nice braid is the Vicious fishing No Fade Braid. It is just a little stiff to start out, but quickly settles in for a nice casting braid that is very strong and as the name implies, does not fade. It is small diameter for poundage and in my experience with it, it does not dig in in the smaller diameters.
