Am I just a weirdo for thinking about buying some lefthanded baitcasters if I'm righthanded?
Seems like most people just do the switch, and I've even seen some right-handers go so far as to move their reel handle over to the righthand side on their spinning reels so that they match their baitcasters.
I have tried and tried to get used to baitcasters with the traditional righthand reel, but I just cannot fish lefthanded. Can't do it. It's not the switch itself that's the problem, it's that it just feels too weird working the rod action lefthanded while reeling with the right. I don't get the action I want on the lure, and it just feels backwards. I always end up going back to spinning gear, even if I know a baitcaster would be the more appropriate tool for the situation.

Any other righties use lefthanded baitcasting reels, or did y'all just get used to the righthand reels?

Left handed casting reels are all I use now.

When I started out with baitcasters I don't even know if left handed retrieve reels were even available so I used the right handed models. I got used to it, but it never really felt as natural to me as my spinning rods which all had the handle on the left

As soon as I found a left handed casting reel I started making the switch.

I'm a natural lefty, so right handed reels suit me perfect.

I'm right handed and normally make the switch, but I can reel and cast with my left.  I tore up my right shoulder in the mid 2000s so I had to learn lefty.   I know a lot of people that will use a lefty reel for pitching and flipping but I never saw the need.

I used spinning gear for 20+ years before I started using a baitcaster. I bought ONE right handed baitcaster and it was just too awkward. Then I discovered left handed baitcasters and never looked back. Cast with the right, reel with the left is the only way I've ever known. I'd borrow a lefty and see how ya like it.

I started with right hand reels from very young using spincast reela. When I started with baitcasters, I naturally started with right hand reels.

As left handed reels became more available, I started changing over. Most of my reels are left handed now. I have a few RH reels if the could be used for fan casting like Revo Winches for deeper cranks. Saw them on clearance at Academy a few years ago for $79 and couldn't resist buying a few.

I am right handed by the way, but feel fine casting with either hand so it really doesn't matter to me. I just prefer a LH reel.

I can only cast with my right, can only pitch and flip lefty, can do everything else with either hand including setting the hooks on stumps and logs.

I'm too old to switch but I that seems like the way to go. I don't know as we had left handed reels back in the day and the spinning reels weren't used where I lived. If I was starting over it's a no brainer.

I am right handed.  For spinning I wind with my left hand.  Quite a few years ago I started switching to left hand wind baitcast reels for worms and jigs, especially for baits that might get bit as soon as they hit the water.  I felt the time it takes to switch hands could lose fish.  I still use right hand reels for reaction baits.  I cast right handed but am comfortable winding with either hand, so you will see right and left hand baitcasters on my deck.
I knew I shoulda re-tied!!

I fish right handed with spinning and lefty with baitcasting, tried fishing righty with BC but it felt so awkward I stopped trying.

I use both.  Cast with either hand.  Prefer LH reels as I grew up with spinning and reeling with the left hand.  Prefer the rod in the right hand for lure manipulation.   Have better thumb control with LH.  Took a while for the right thumb to become something other than a light switch...either 'on' or 'off'.

I have always used left handed reels. I can't set a hook with my left arm to save my life.

I'm right handed by a little bit.  I can cast with either hand.  I actually pitch better with the left.

I righty reel is just about perfect for me, since I can change up to rest the right side.   this really comes into play when I am punching with a heavy weight.  I dont find it a problem to switch hands.  nothing is happening too quickly for me to not react in time.

besides, I have a better hookset with the left, and I can grab a squirming/thrashing fish with my right hand way way better.

these days, righty reels are more readily available.  fine by me.  I'm not changing up, just cuz the cool kids are doing it.  :D
