Hey all,

I'm from Michigan, but I have some family that lives by Harmony, MN that were going up to see Aug.10-15. I'm just starting out fishing (no boat, limited lures) and I'd love to find a nice place to fish up there. My family own a large 300-something acre farm on the Upper Iowa River (I think that's the name of it.) I have been looking for areas to fish around Harmony also. We used to go to the Old Barn Resort when I was younger, and I believe that Mill Creek runs by there, basically limitless public acces? Has anyone fished there? What about Mill Pond? I have never fished in a river before, and have hardly fished in lakes yet lol. I'm just beginning, but I've already been bit by the Bass Bug ::). Any tips on what to use at the River for Smallies? I'm guessing there won't be too many largemouths there, but I did catch a small one there that I remember when I was 6 or 7. Any other species fish I should try going after?

My supplies, Just in case anyone has supplies-sensitive tips:
6 and 7' medium-light and medium action rods, respectively
Cheap, but durable spinning reels
A few Hula Poppers and Jitterbugs.
Misc. Spinnerbaits.
Lots of small plastic grubs, many different colors. 2-4"
Plastic Cray and a few Watermelon/Red-tail lizards
Misc. Hooks, weights, blah-blah-blah. Just basic shtuff  :)
Very small forget-what-it's-called crankbait. Works very well with injured baitfish appeal, 1" long, swims 6-10" underwater.
Hoping to get Senkos and other plastic worms before I go up there.

Well, hope that helped.
Is there any tackle you'd recommend me get before I go up there?

Have never fished in that part of the state - central and north is my neck of the woods.  You aren't too far from Winona and the river.  I'd have some worms, senkos, and flukes handy - can't go wrong working any of them this time of year.

The bass are biting in Maple Springs on Ikes' hair jigs tipped with leeches. The panfish bite along the shorelines is picking up. The northerns are still biting well at the Rush River entrance on large red eyes and large sucker minnows.

Thanks for the help guys, I'm checking the distance to the shop, and doing the best I can to check out the surrounding areas. I got some plastic craws, and I'm hoping to get senkos & flukes WHEN I GET PAID... Thanks again guys! See ya!

1/4 ounce white beetle spin or 1/8 ounce white spinnerbait double willow leaf.

Samething in chartruse and green.

Was back in MN May of 2006 fished a lake I've never been on and just killed the bass on those things.

This year I've sent KaRu vibra shocks to my 3 brothers and Dad and Josh has done very well with the Fogy green and the blue shimmer shad on both bass and walleye.

We are from Milroy MN in the south west section of the state so not sure where your heading but wish you the best of luck.

Fogy,

Thanks for the tips, I'll put them on the list. Harmony is about as far south as it gets, on the eastern side of the state.
